About the Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress

Last checked

If there's one thing I've learned in my years of reviewing mattresses, it's that a good mattress isn't just about what's on the inside, but how that's executed. It was with this knowledge in play, I put the Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress to test, in-store and keenly observed its performance across all essential and auxiliary components.

The Bed-experience on the Outside

Right off the bat, I was impressed by the utilitarian yet attractive soft-touch, stretch knit cover. It's breathable and contours neatly around the body - a plus point for restless sleepers who toss and turn before settling into a comfy position. But my enthusiasm was tempered by the fact that the cover isn't removable, making a mattress protector essential. You'll want to keep the Simba Hybrid Essential fresh and clean as long as possible, especially as it cannot be simply tossed in the wash like some of its competitors' covers.

The Comfort Level

When it came to comfort, the Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress struck a fine balance between support and cushy comfort. The 1000 Aerocoil® conical springs and the 20mm Simbatex® foam layer in unison provided an excellent surface for pressure relief. Still, my experience tells me some people, especially side sleepers with an hourglass figure, might find the medium to firm tension a touch too firm for their liking. However, for average weight side sleepers and back sleepers, this tension works pretty well, offering optimal support and comfort.

The Inner Workings

One of the standout features in the mattress's construction is its zoned CertiPUR® foam base. The segmentation into five different zones makes this mattress a great choice for those who experience waking up with nagging back or joint pains. It encourages healthy sleep posture and alignment which could potentially alleviate your discomfort. Though, there's always a hint of scepticism about how much zoning can influence comfort and support. Zoning or not, a mattress's overall feel plays a far more decisive role in most cases, and thankfully, this mattress doesn't disappoint.

The Coolness Quotient

And then there's the cooling factor - something mattresses with foam tend to grapple with. The Simbatex® foam is infused with graphite which aids in increasing air circulation, aiming to disperse heat and humidity. I'm yet to come across a foam mattress that truly offers a perpetually cool bed-through-the-night experience. This one is no exception. Simba has made commendable efforts here, but on particularly warm days, some sleepers may still find themselves uncomfortably hot.

The Delivery and Care

The mattress ticks all the right boxes when it comes to delivery and care. It comes conveniently rolled in a box, ready to be manoeuvred to the room of your choice, and the easy care feature - only needing regular rotation, not flipping, adds to the perks.

The Verdict

The Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress has a lot going for it - its medium to firm comfort makes it well-tailored to a broad range of sleepers, the zoned design is a tangible nod to those with specific posture-related needs, and the mattress's general construction speaks of solid durability. But, as with all things, it may not be a universal hit. Some may find the necessity of a mattress protector a hassle; others might feel the heat regulation isn't up to their expectations. All elements considered, the Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress is for those who value substantial, contoured support in a mattress that won't break the bank, appreciating quality traditional spring comfort with a touch of modern foam innovation.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The combination of 1000 Aerocoil® conical springs and Simbatex® foam layer provides an excellent balance of support and comfort for a variety of sleepers.
  • The open structure foam gently adjusts to your body's shape while promoting airflow, so you won't wake up drenched in sweat or stiff from lack of support.
  • The Zoned CertiPUR® foam base offers personalized contouring for different body zones, delivering an ergonomic night's sleep, reducing the likelihood of waking up with joint and back pains.
  • The soft-touch, stretch knit cover not only adds a plush feel but also enhances the performance of the mattress's spring and foam layers - it's a seamless blend of comfort and practicality.
  • Convenience is a key feature: with a easy care design, removable and washable cover, and no need to flip - maintaining a clean, fresh sleep environment has never been easier. Plus, the mattress comes rolled in a box for easy transportation.

Cons

  • The 20cm height of the mattress, while suitable for most, might not provide enough depth for those looking for an ultra-plush and luxurious feel.
  • Even with a washable cover, the Simba Hybrid Essential mattress is single-sided which may not appeal to those who prefer a flippable design to extend the lifespan of their mattress.
  • Given its medium firm tension, the mattress may be a bit too firm for some side sleepers, especially those with an hourglass figure who might need a bit more sinkage for optimal comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions For The Simba Sleep Hybrid Essential Mattress

The use of 1000 individual Aerocoil® conical springs in this model provides personalised pressure relief, that adapts to every individual sleeper's body shape. These conical springs also maximise air flow for a cooler night's sleep, while reducing the effects of movement, minimising disturbance when sleeping with a partner. - Thanks, Giselle
Surely, the Zoned CertiPUR® foam base has five different zones, providing targeted responsive support where you need it most. This means that areas of your body with higher pressure points, like your shoulders and hips, receive the necessary support for a conforming and comfortable sleep. This feature also promotes body alignment, minimising the risk of waking up with back pain or joint discomfort.
This mattress has a medium to firm comfort choice. While it is suitable for most types of sleepers including back and side sleepers, stomach sleepers typically need a firmer surface to provide optimal support for the spine. Therefore, this mattress may prove to be too soft for stomach sleepers who typically require a firmer mattress to ensure optimal spinal alignment.
Yes, a layer of Simbatex® foam is incorporated in the structure of this model, which aids in increasing air circulation. This innovative foam layer works to release excess heat and humidity, contributing to a fresher sleeping environment throughout the night.
Maintenance of this mattress is straightforward with the zip-off top cover that is machine washable at 40°C. Regular washing of the top cover will help you preserve the freshness of your mattress, adding to the lifespan of the product.

Bought this a few months back, not too bad. It's comfortable enough and I seem to sleep okay on it. The heat regulation is a nice touch for warmer evenings.

We have recently purchased the Simba matress and can honestly say we have had a great nights' sleep every time we have gone to bed. It's been been a good purchase, the only downside is that after sleeping on this matress, we don't want to leave the bed in morning!

Gave this mattress a go as, being a rugby player, I suffer from back and neck pain quite often. It moulds to me and let's me sleep in any orientation comfortably. The mattress doesn't move much at all when I turn and roll in my sleep, so my wife is much happier because it doesn't wake her up. Happy wife Definitely worth a go, will most likely get some pillows to go with it.

Me and my partner desperately needed a new mattress and sleep is very important to us, as so it should be, especially since we spend every night on it together. So with that in mind we went on the hunt for a new mattress. After a rather lengthy process of meticulous choosing and decision making, we made the call to go with the Simba Mattress (Double). Once purchased we waited patiently for our order to arrive! We were so excited to try it for ourselves and when the day finally came we were not disappointed. The level of comfort that came with the mattress was unmatched and like none other we had tried before. Me and my partner knew that after that first nights sleep, sleep was to become enjoyable again. We will definitely recommend this product to anyone who's looking to have a better nights sleep because at the end of the day, choosing a mattress is an investment.

Mattress was great but needed to google and YouTube what to do as there were no instructions with the bed. I received an email three weeks after receiving the mattress that gave me advice on how to open the box and care for it but obviously this was far too late so slightly disappointing when you spend such a large amount on something like this. So far, the mattress itself is brilliant, I'm keen to update this review closer to the full 200 day guarantee but I will admit that any back pain I was experiencing had completely disappeared since sleeping on this bed. I'm a side and back sleeper for the record.

I already have a superking Simba mattress and my daughter loves uddles in our bed. It was time for her to have a new mattress and we made a pact that a new mattress like mommies comes with a new bed time routine. Some days she took 2-3 hours to get to sleep. Now we have her new mattress she is asleep within 20-30 minutes. It's so comfortable. Ordering and delivery were also very easy. We love our Simba mattresses.

House move and needed an vacuum packed mattress to get it upstairs. Arrived a week later, on a day I had selected, great delivery service. Vacuum packing meant I could get it upstairs (minus the cardboard box). Very comfortable mattress.
