About the Flaxby Masters Guild 16150 Pocket Sprung Mattress

Last checked

The 16,150-spring headline is the main construction story here, but it needs reading properly: this is not the same proposition as a simple 1000-pocket mattress scaled up sixteen times, because much of the count comes from smaller adaptive micro springs working above the main Cortec spring structure. Much of the finesse comes from those micro springs. Against ordinary 1000-2000 pocket-sprung mattresses, the extra spring layers should give a more responsive surface and finer pressure relief, rather than just making the bed firmer in a blunt, orthopaedic way. That is still a premium pocket-sprung build. The comfort rating is medium, 3 of 5, which places it in the middle of Flaxby’s range rather than at the braced, boardier end. The filling stack is unusually natural-heavy for the category: British wool, mohair, silk and cashmere are doing the comfort and temperature-regulation work, instead of the foam-heavy pillowtops common in many memory-foam hybrids. The surface should feel lively, not slow. Traditional tufting and four rows of side stitching are proper mattress-making details, not just decorative language; they help hold deep fillings in place and give the perimeter more structure under sitting or sleeping weight. Glue-free, recyclable Cortec springs and the absence of FR chemical treatment also put the build at the cleaner, craft-led end of the premium pocket-sprung tier.

For fit, the medium tension and deep animal-fibre comfort layers point most clearly towards side sleeping, where the shoulder and hip need some give without the whole body dropping into a foam trough. Average-weight sleepers get the most balanced version of this mattress, and that lines up with repeated praise for cushioned comfort, easier sleep and a plush feel that still carries people who change between side, back and front. Back sleepers expose the weaker edge of the design. Several poorer experiences describe the mattress feeling softer than expected, with dipping through the centre or a raised, uneven sensation; one 80kg buyer found the hip area under-supported, and another linked softening after months to renewed back pain. The support marketing overpromises for that group. Natural fillings should suit warmer sleepers better than dense foam, and the spring system is intended to limit partner disturbance, but couples with different firmness preferences may still split over it. Recent sentiment includes one partner finding it slightly soft while the other loved the comfort, which is exactly the risk with a high-fill, medium mattress: luxury feel for one person can become insufficient lift for another. It lands well for average-weight side sleepers wanting a deep, traditional, natural-filled mattress with a cushioned surface; heavier back sleepers, post-surgery buyers or anyone needing a taut hip platform have safer territory in the firm version or in a firmer pocket-sprung tier with less surface give.

Feels really comfy and supportive without being too hard, and it stays cool enough at night. It is quite heavy to move about but once it is on the bed it sleeps lovely.

My deliciously comfy bed is worth every penny. I wanted a natural material one with no synthetic materials in the mattress and this model fitted the bill. I love my bed. I can recommend this to all who deserve a good night sleep. I just drift off as if on a cloud.

A luxurious sleep will be found in the comfort of this Flaxby mattress. Ive never slept so well in years, but our last mattress was fifteen years old! To me the mattress is a little to soft, but the wife loves it, so I guess well be sticking with it; happy wife, happy life an all that.

Suffered for a year with a well known mattress company and what a mistake I made , did my research and read reveiws and I decided on a Harrison Spinks mattress, short discussion with Ryan the manager at Bury St Edmunds who was very knowledgeable showing me images on his phone how the process of making the mattress was done and I was left in no doubt that I was making the right decision. Its now 4 weeks since I have had the mattress and I sleep like a baby

Simply the best bed I have ever slept on. Beyond comfortable. A wise investment me thinks, given the time spent sleeping. Wish I had realised / appreciated the benefits of a great bed earlier.

We previously had a high spec mattress and decided to go one better with this routine replacement. It's amazing! We sink slightly until we're perfectly supported and when one of us moves in the night or gets up early, the other is not disturbed. I like to sleep on my back, side and even half face down and it's always comfortable. I have not once woke up with an aching back for the first time in a long time!

Best mattress I've ever slept on. Most expensive too. But worth the money. Very pleased with purchase. Only one possible downside - it's pretty heavy.

This mattress is impressively deep with added luxurious cashmere and silk fillings. Available in medium and firm, its incredibly comfortable whilst still offering support. As with all mattresses in the Flaxby range, it is chemical free and features British wool. This model has a summer and winter side, meaning you can flip it seasonally. The natural fillings have been expertly layered within the mattress for optimum sleep depending on the season, giving you the best nights sleep whatever the weather.
