About the Dream Team Amersham Pocket Sprung Mattress

Last checked

The Amersham is built around a simple promise: a lifted, orthopaedic sleep surface with a natural comfort layer rather than a squashy foam top. This is firm, 5 of 5, and deliberately traditional. The 1200-pocket spring count sits in a credible middle ground for this construction class: more adaptive than a basic open-coil mattress, but not in the same contouring territory as higher-count pocket units or memory-foam hybrids with thicker pressure-relief layers. Its comfort comes from British wool, a soft-touch antibacterial cover and traditional tufting, so the surface should feel resilient, dry and tightly held rather than pillowy. British wool is a stronger material choice than the polyester padding often used in cheaper orthopaedic builds, especially for sleepers who dislike heat-retaining foam, but the firmer tufted finish limits how much the shoulder and hip can sink. The orthopaedic feel here is achieved through spring tension, wool padding and a buttoned surface, not through a plush comfort stack; that is honest for a very firm pocket-sprung mattress, but it makes the support uniform and assertive rather than cushioning or body-hugging. Being double-sided is a useful durability feature, provided it is actually turned.

Back sleepers wanting a flat, held-up feel are the natural audience, particularly those who associate softer mattresses with morning backache. Back-pain relief is the repeated win. Praise tends to cluster around comfort, support and the absence of a spongy topper feel, with several buyers describing better sleep after moving from an older or less supportive mattress; that lines up with the firm pocket-sprung build and the restrained wool surface. Front sleepers who need their hips kept level may also get on with it, while side sleepers and hourglass figures are the awkward match because the firm surface gives limited sink at the shoulder and hip. For couples, pocket springs are a better starting point than open-coil springs for reducing roll-together, but both people need to want the same taut feel. Wool should run less clammy than deep foam, although temperature is not the main theme in feedback. Handling is a real nuisance: the double-sided design is praised in principle, yet a recent owner found the turning routine heavy even with two people involved. Quality complaints are fewer but sharper, with low scores mentioning stitching problems on arrival, top layers wearing down and audible spring movement after a couple of years, which undercuts the durability message attached to the tufted, turnable design. It suits committed back sleepers who want firm, natural-fill support; side sleepers needing pressure relief, or anyone unwilling to wrestle with a heavy turnable mattress, will find safer ground in a medium-firm pocket mattress with a plusher comfort layer or a memory-foam hybrid.

If it doesn't meet your expectations, it can be returned for a refund or exchange, offering flexibility and assurance in purchasing decisions.

Very firm comfort rating - extra support with optimal spine alignment

A very firm comfort rating ensures robust support, promoting better posture by keeping the spine in an optimal alignment position during sleep. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing back pain or those who prefer a stable, non-yielding sleep surface.

Responsive pocket springs - individually wrapped for targeted support

Individually wrapped pocket springs adjust independently to body contours, offering personalized support and reducing motion transfer. This construction enhances comfort by evenly distributing body weight, ensuring restful sleep.

Double-sided design - flip regularly to keep your mattress fresh

Flipping the mattress regularly helps maintain its shape and prolongs its lifespan, ensuring consistent comfort. This feature also assists in distributing wear evenly, which can lead to a more restful sleep experience over time.

Pressure relieving features - reduces pressure points for better sleep

Enhanced comfort results from its ability to alleviate pressure on various body parts. Improved sleep quality is achieved through reduced disturbances caused by pressure-induced discomfort.

Feels really firm and supportive, and the cover is nice and soft so it sleeps comfy without getting too hot. Only thing is the delivery was a bit slow, but the mattress itself seems well made.

Taking some getting used to as very firm, but definitely more comfy then our old mattress,, only one problem as needs to be turned or rotated weekly. For 3 months. Swivelling round is easy, but really heavy to turn over. Even for 2 of us ( pensioners). Though we do just about manage.

If you want a firm mattress and don't like sleeping on 'sponge' toppers then this is for you. Feels good quality and I like that you can turn it in all directions. Very happy with this purchase.

Mattress was ordered very firm and arrived almost feeling that way, felt like it could have been slighty firmer. Great night sleep on it and has definitely held up well. After 3 weeks I can feel the mattress beginning to lose support very slightly, so time to rotate it as the guide suggested after 3 weeks.

Firm and amazing for bigger people. I've had issues with finding a mattress that supports me as a 30 stone man and doesn't fail in a short time. If you're looking for a firm and affordable mattress this is a top choice.

Very good service. The attention to what sort of comfort level we should expect from our mattress was demonstrated impressively. We settled on a mattress after trying out different beds and once the mattress was delivered it didnt disappoint.
