About the Hyde and Sleep Original Memory Foam Mattress
Last checked
Back sleepers wanting a flatter, less yielding feel are the natural starting point for the Hyde & Sleep Original Memory Foam Mattress. This is firm foam first. The build is described as four cushioning layers, including two responsive memory-foam layers over a profiled, zoned base foam, with a breathable knitted cover on top and UK manufacture behind it; the supplied tension is firm, 5 of 5, so the comfort story is about contouring without much plush sink. A firm all-foam mattress using zoned base foam is an honest construction choice, but it is also conservative beside pocket-sprung hybrids, where load-bearing is shared by steel springs and foam rather than relying on shaped polyurethane to do most of the work. The zoning should give shoulders, back and hips different degrees of give, yet the practical effect is still broad foam support rather than the more independent response of a £700+ zoned pocket unit. The two memory-foam layers are the main comfort feature, so pressure relief should come from slow moulding around the body rather than bounce or lift. The breathable cover and airflow language are useful, but they do not turn memory foam into an actively cool material. Edge-to-edge support also needs reading carefully: without a sprung perimeter or reinforced edge rail in the spec, it is more likely to mean usable foam across the surface than the firmer sitting edge found on stronger hybrid builds.
Back sleeping is the cleanest match here. Positive reviews repeatedly describe the mattress as supportive, body-moulding and good at reducing partner disturbance, which fits the memory-foam construction: dense foam absorbs movement well, and several longer accounts link that steadiness with fewer aches or easier sleep. The same firmness makes it a harder sell for side sleepers with pronounced shoulders or hips, because the surface may not allow enough drop for the waist and spine to settle level, even if some people with pain conditions found the contouring helpful. A recurring complaint is loss of support over time, with lower-rated reviews describing dips, sagging, a raised middle ridge between partners and back pain after the first comfortable period; that is the point where the claimed targeted support loses to real bedroom feedback. Temperature feedback is mixed too: some accounts find it breathable for memory foam, while one recent complaint says it does not sleep cool, so hot sleepers should treat the knitted cover as a moderation feature rather than a cooling guarantee. One severe account also describes persistent foam odour and breathing irritation, which is not a repeated theme here but is still relevant for anyone sensitive to new-foam smells. For sole back sleepers and some front sleepers wanting a firm, motion-absorbing foam feel, this is the right call. For curvier side sleepers, heavier couples worried about dips, or hot sleepers wanting stronger airflow, look at sturdier pocket-sprung hybrids in the next price tier instead.

Firm comfort support rating - feels solid and supportive
A firm comfort support rating indicates a mattress that provides a robust sleep surface, offering substantial support for the spine and pressure points. This level of firmness is particularly well-suited for individuals who prefer a stable and supportive sleeping area, often helpful for those with back pain or those who sleep on their stomach or back.
100 Night Comfort Guarantee - gives you peace of mind when you buy
A 100 Night Comfort Guarantee allows for a trial period where the product can be tested in your own home environment to see if it meets personal comfort standards. If it doesn't meet your expectations, it can be returned for a refund or exchange, offering flexibility and assurance in purchasing decisions.
Contouring memory foam - adapts to your unique body shape
The memory foam layer customizes its shape to match the body's contours, ensuring improved support and pressure relief during sleep. This feature enhances comfort by evenly distributing weight, potentially reducing pressure points and alleviating discomfort.
Optimal spinal support - promotes healthy posture during sleep
Expect steadier back alignment through the night, which can ease morning stiffness for some sleepers. Anyone who likes a very soft, sink-in feel may find it holds the body a bit firmer than preferred.
Breathable materials - enhances airflow for cooler sleep
Breathable materials allow for increased airflow, aiding in temperature regulation during sleep. This can result in a cooler, more comfortable sleeping experience.

Nice firm feel with a bit of give, and its helped my back feel better in the mornings without getting too hot. Been a few weeks now and its holding its shape well, so Im happy enough with it.

It is a nice mattress. compared to when tried in store it is definitely firmer than expected, but I assume it will get comfier as I use it, considering I have it from less than a month. overall satisfied with it.
Brilliant Customer service was looked after from trying mattresses to delivery of the mattress. Will recommend to friends.
