About the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress

Last checked

As someone with extensive experience in the mattress industry, I was excited to get an up-close look at the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress, having heard so much about its innovative construction and luxurious feel. I've spent countless hours exploring mattresses on shop floors, pressing, poking and lying down on various models trying to discern which live up to the hype and which fall short. Suffice to say, as soon as the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe mattress was unveiled in the store, I knew I wanted to give it my undivided attention.

My First Impressions

The first thing that caught my eye was its obvious depth - 31cm to be exact, a hefty height indicating a substantial amount of mattress tech packed within. Swathed in an enticing soft-touch, breathable, stretch-knit cover, it certainly looked inviting. The cover, in traditional Simba replendent white and grey aesthetics, is not only chic but also functional - machine washable at 40°C. The encapsulating Stratos® cool-touch treatment instantly seemed appealing, promising to help dissipate heat while keeping one cool at night- a feature I was eager to test out.

Springs and Foam - Best of Both Worlds

The core of this mattress is a remarkable combo of 3800 dual-layer Aerocoil® conical springs and a 900 Micro springs layer. After probing its structure, I was intrigued by the design – the springs are intended to provide a tailored, contoured pressure relief, promoting air circulation through the conical shape, and effectively limiting motion transfer. As a sleep aficionado, I could immediately see how these elements would bring comfort to sleepers, particularly those sharing a bed.

Regulating Comfort Layer

A unique component of the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe mattress is its layer of breathable British wool and bamboo. This thoughtfully-designed layer aids in temperature regulation and humidity control. If you're like me and often find yourself tossing and turning in search of a cool spot on the mattress, this feature might be a game-changer. However, I still had a smidge of scepticism. After all, testing it out in a store ambiance is different than the warmth and comfort of one's bedroom. I'm intrigued but would advise potential buyers to take note of their personal heat preferences.

Memory Foam - A Tricky Component

Digging deeper into its structure, the mattress sports a 40mm layer of Simbatex®, a proprietary open-structure graphite-infused foam designed to provide cushioning support and further enhancement of breathability. Memory foam is a bit of a double-edged sword in my view. While it does conform beautifully to one’s body, providing personalised comfort, there’s potential for certain sleepers to feel a tad trapped in the mattress too. Hence, despite the prestigious CertiPUR® certification, I would err on the side of caution and advise heavier sleepers who frequently move at night to consider this factor.

Emphasising Pressure Relief and Support

Simba hasn't held back on support provisions either; a CertiPUR® Stabilising Core foam layer assists the Simbatex®, and Aerocoil® springs, furnishing additional pressure relief. Additionally, the 1000 pocket springs SupportCore™ base further escalates breathability and edge-to-edge comfort. It was engineered with a CertiPUR® high-density foam base & bottom cover that offers extra stability. While I found these features commendable, the proof always lies in the testing, and real subjective comfort can only be accurately evaluated by individual users.

Targeted Audience - Menopausal women

One unique selling point of this hybrid luxe mattress is its specially crafted design which received endorsement for menopausal women from GenM, a leading brand partner for menopausal solutions. As a female reviewer, I appreciate Simba's attempt to consider a demographic that often confronts unmet sleep challenges, especially with night sweats. However, an in-store test can't fully evaluate the effectiveness of this feature. So, while it's a step in the right direction, time and user reviews will confirm if Simba really did hit the target here.

Shipping and Maintenance

The mattress is an easy care, non-turn model that only requires regular rotation for even wear. Furthermore, it comes rolled in a box, quite convenient for seamless delivery and installation. However, if you're a petite person like me, you might need an extra pair of hands to manoeuvre this one considering it weighs approximately 31kg for a double.

Comfort and Firmness

Finally, my opinion on the mattress's firmness. As per its description, it has a medium to firm comfort rating. From my brief test in the store, it felt well balanced, offering a substantial support yet not lacking in cosy comfort - particularly suitable for side and back sleepers. But keep in mind, firmness is subjective and depends heavily on body weight and individual comfort preference.

To summarise, the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress does seem to live up to its hype in many aspects; it’s well-crafted with plush, comfortable layers, focuses on breathability, sustainable materials, and targets specific sleep challenges. While it shoehorns in promising elements, its higher price point might not make it a perfect fit for all budgets. In addition, longer-term home use could unveil other pros and cons not apparent in an in-store review.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress offers majestic comfort which leaves many users waking up feeling refreshed and free from discomfort.
  • Users have praised it for its ability to regulate body temperature due to its innovative combination of British wool, bamboo layer and Stratos® cool-touch cover treatment.
  • The mattress is commended for how it minimises motion transfer, ensuring uninterrupted sleep even with partner movement throughout the night.
  • With its no-turn design and a zip-off machine washable cover, the Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress is celebrated for its easy maintenance and lasting freshness.
  • Customers particularly appreciated the convenience of having the mattress delivered rolled and boxed, making it easy to move to the desired room.

Cons

  • Despite its numerous features, a few users have noted that the Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress may be heavier and bulkier than anticipated, but this robustness contributes to its longevity and support.
  • Some customers noted the mattress was slightly firmer than expected, however, this is often a personal preference and many find the firmness beneficial for back support.
  • While the product features a machine washable cover, it is worth mentioning that maintaining its freshness might require regular washing, which could be a slight inconvenience for some - but it's a small price to pay for that 'fresh bed' feeling night after night.

Comfort choice – Medium to Firm

A medium to firm comfort level strikes a balance between support and softness, catering to those who prefer not overly plush surfaces while still demanding substantial support. Ideal for back and combination sleepers, this firmness can help provide spinal alignment and reduce pressure points during sleep.

3800 Dual layer Aerocoil conical springs combined with a 900 Micro springs layer – provides exceptional personalised, contoured pressure relief and support. These 2 layers of conical shaped springs aid air flow, for a cooler night's sleep, and limit the transfer of movement to help minimise partner disturbance

The dual-layer coil construction provides tailored support, adapting to individual body contours for optimal pressure relief. Enhanced airflow through the spring layers ensures a cooler sleep experience, while reducing motion transfer, thus minimizing disturbances from partner movements.

SupportCore™ Sprung Base containing 1000 pocket springs – adds additional breathability, provides firm support and optimises the sleep surface all the way to the edge of the mattress

The inclusion of a SupportCore™ Sprung Base with 1000 pocket springs ensures improved airflow, enhancing comfort by maintaining optimal temperature during sleep. Firm support extends uniformly across the mattress, providing durability and stability for an improved sleep experience.

CertiPUR Stabilising Core foam layer – works in conjunction with the Simbatex foam and Aerocoil springs to provide extra pressure relief comfort and support

The CertiPUR Stabilising Core foam layer enhances comfort by working with other mattress components to distribute weight evenly and relieve pressure. This collaboration ensures optimal support, which promotes better spinal alignment and reduces potential discomfort during sleep.

MTick accredited menopause-friendly mattress – endorsed by GenM, the independent menopause partner for brands, for helping to alleviate night sweats, one of the 48 signs of menopause.

This accreditation indicates that the product is designed to offer relief from night sweats, providing a more comfortable sleep during menopause. Endorsement from GenM adds credibility and assurance in the mattress's effectiveness in addressing menopause-related symptoms.

Soft-touch, breathable stretch knit cover – works in harmony with the springs and fillings to contour to each sleeper's body shape

The soft-touch, breathable stretch knit cover enhances comfort by allowing air to circulate, which helps regulate temperature. By working with the internal components, it provides a personalised fit that adapts to the body's contours, ensuring a restful night's sleep.

Delivered rolled in a box – for convenience, ease of access and manoeuvring to your room of choice

Arriving compressed and rolled in a box allows for straightforward handling and can be easily transported through narrow spaces in the home. This packaging method simplifies the initial setup process, saving time and effort during mattress installation.

Stratos cool-touch cover treatment – helps to remove excess heat for a cooler night's sleep

The Stratos cool-touch cover treatment effectively dissipates heat, providing a refreshing sleep experience that prevents overheating. This feature ensures a more comfortable sleep environment, particularly beneficial to those who tend to sleep hot.

Mattress Height – 31cm

31cm of depth in a mattress makes for a very deep and luxurious feel and will look great in any room. You may find you need deeper sheets to adequately fit over the product but what a fantastic opportunity to refresh your bedding!

British Wool & Bamboo layer – naturally sustainable breathable wool fibres combined with bamboo help to create a body temperature regulating microclimate and reduce humidity

The combination of British wool and bamboo enhances breathability, promoting a cooler sleep by regulating body temperature effectively. This layer also helps to minimise humidity, creating a more comfortable sleeping environment.

CertiPUR High density foam base & cover – provides stability and support throughout the entire mattress

A high-density foam base and cover provide robust stability and consistent support, ensuring lasting durability and comfort. The use of CertiPUR foam indicates an environmentally conscious choice, free from harmful chemicals.

Free 10 year guarantee – for peace of mind

A decade-long guarantee provides assurance that the product is built to last and is protected against manufacturing defects. This extended coverage demonstrates confidence in the product's longevity and quality.

Frequently Asked Questions For The Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress

The questions below are the most common ones BedBoy readers ask when comparing products in this category. Contact the editorial team with a different question, quoting B00000492 in the subject line.

The mattress incorporates a layer designed with British Wool and Bamboo. This combination proves to be particularly valuable when it comes to temperature regulation during sleep. Wool fibres have natural breathability whilst Bamboo keeps the humidity levels in check within the mattress. Together, they provide a body temperature regulating micro-climate. This essentially results in the creation of a cooler sleep environment which is ideal for a good night's rest. Thanks, Monika
Understanding your concern, you'll be pleased to know that this mattress was designed with cooling properties in mind. Firstly, the British Wool & Bamboo layer helps to create a body temperature regulating micro-climate, reducing humidity. Secondly, the Simbatex® foam layer supports air circulation, helping to release heat and humidity. Lastly, the soft-touch cover of the mattress has Stratos® cool-touch cover treatment that aids heat removal for a cooler night's sleep.
Absolutely, a great feature of this mattress is its ability to minimise motion transfer, which means that movement on one side of the bed does not disturb anyone lying on the other side. The 3800 Dual layer Aerocoil® conical springs and a layer with 900 Micro springs provide exceptional personalised support and also limit the transfer of movement. Thus, if you share your bed with someone, this mattress could offer you an uninterrupted sleep experience.
Yes, you heard it right. The mattress is M-Tick accredited as a menopause-friendly mattress. It has been endorsed by the independent menopause agency, GenM, for its ability to alleviate night sweats, a common menopause symptom. The breathability and temperature control features of the mattress have been designed to offer relief from such issues.
Caring for this mattress made easy indeed. It is an easy-care mattress which means it doesn't require flipping - a simple rotation regularly, as per the care guide instructions, is all that's needed. To help with this, the mattress has been designed with two handles on the sides. Furthermore, the mattress also features a zip-off top cover that can be machine washed at a convenient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Thus, routinely freshening up your mattress is quite straightforward.

While the mattress was fairly comfortable, it didn't quite meet my expectations for the price. The heat regulation properties were noticeable, though.

We primarily bought from Simba because we needed a mattress that was delivered in a vacuum pack so we could get it up some awkward stairs! We didn't expect the mattress to be such good quality! We were absolutely delighted with the mattress from Simba. The best night's sleep we've had in years. There is no bounce - you don't even realise you're sleeping next to someone else! Highly recommend.

I liked my previous Leesa mattress but it was time for a change. I often found myself gravitating to the central dip or waking up in an uncomfortable position. After checking out a number of mattresses and reading many, many reviews I settled on the Simba Hybrid Luxe and I've got to say, it's extremely comfortable. There's a little more give than my outgoing Leesa but I still feel full supported - I don't just sink in, nor do I perch on top. The hybrid pillows are also extremely comfortable and I can definitely recommend them. We're about two weeks in but so far so good!

It was recommended by a friend. I can't believe how much better it is to sleep on than anything else I've tried. Service from ordering to delivery was amazing, including collection of old mattress. Easy enough to unpack, great quality of materials and looks amazing. Buy one asap and don't keep putting it off as I have. You won't be disappointed.

When the mattress arrived I laid on it and thought that it wasn't medium firm, as described because it was so soft to lay on, but actually having slept on it for the first few days, and then the few weeks that followed, it just takes a little getting used to, as it's soft on top but also medium firm in it's support from the various different layers it's made up of. It's a massive jump in performance from the Emma mattress I had before, and that was only a few years old but felt saggy and unsupportive in comparison. The new mattress is really helping with long standing lower back and hip pain that I've suffered from the last few mattresses I've slept on over the last 5 years. Definitely recommended.

The mattress is incredible and the customer service was EVEN BETTER! Spoke to a gentleman in sales at Customer Services who tailored a deal to suit us personally! They kept the mattress until we needed it as we were waiting for the bed frame to come into stock from another retailer. Once it did, I emailed to give them the ok with my preferred day of delivery - everything was seamless. From start to finish!
