As someone with extensive experience in the mattress industry, I was excited to get an up-close look at the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress, having heard so much about its innovative construction and luxurious feel. I've spent countless hours exploring mattresses on shop floors, pressing, poking and lying down on various models trying to discern which live up to the hype and which fall short. Suffice to say, as soon as the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe mattress was unveiled in the store, I knew I wanted to give it my undivided attention.
The first thing that caught my eye was its obvious depth - 31cm to be exact, a hefty height indicating a substantial amount of mattress tech packed within. Swathed in an enticing soft-touch, breathable, stretch-knit cover, it certainly looked inviting. The cover, in traditional Simba replendent white and grey aesthetics, is not only chic but also functional - machine washable at 40°C. The encapsulating Stratos® cool-touch treatment instantly seemed appealing, promising to help dissipate heat while keeping one cool at night- a feature I was eager to test out.
The core of this mattress is a remarkable combo of 3800 dual-layer Aerocoil® conical springs and a 900 Micro springs layer. After probing its structure, I was intrigued by the design – the springs are intended to provide a tailored, contoured pressure relief, promoting air circulation through the conical shape, and effectively limiting motion transfer. As a sleep aficionado, I could immediately see how these elements would bring comfort to sleepers, particularly those sharing a bed.
A unique component of the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe mattress is its layer of breathable British wool and bamboo. This thoughtfully-designed layer aids in temperature regulation and humidity control. If you're like me and often find yourself tossing and turning in search of a cool spot on the mattress, this feature might be a game-changer. However, I still had a smidge of scepticism. After all, testing it out in a store ambiance is different than the warmth and comfort of one's bedroom. I'm intrigued but would advise potential buyers to take note of their personal heat preferences.
Digging deeper into its structure, the mattress sports a 40mm layer of Simbatex®, a proprietary open-structure graphite-infused foam designed to provide cushioning support and further enhancement of breathability. Memory foam is a bit of a double-edged sword in my view. While it does conform beautifully to one’s body, providing personalised comfort, there’s potential for certain sleepers to feel a tad trapped in the mattress too. Hence, despite the prestigious CertiPUR® certification, I would err on the side of caution and advise heavier sleepers who frequently move at night to consider this factor.
Simba hasn't held back on support provisions either; a CertiPUR® Stabilising Core foam layer assists the Simbatex®, and Aerocoil® springs, furnishing additional pressure relief. Additionally, the 1000 pocket springs SupportCore™ base further escalates breathability and edge-to-edge comfort. It was engineered with a CertiPUR® high-density foam base & bottom cover that offers extra stability. While I found these features commendable, the proof always lies in the testing, and real subjective comfort can only be accurately evaluated by individual users.
One unique selling point of this hybrid luxe mattress is its specially crafted design which received endorsement for menopausal women from GenM, a leading brand partner for menopausal solutions. As a female reviewer, I appreciate Simba's attempt to consider a demographic that often confronts unmet sleep challenges, especially with night sweats. However, an in-store test can't fully evaluate the effectiveness of this feature. So, while it's a step in the right direction, time and user reviews will confirm if Simba really did hit the target here.
The mattress is an easy care, non-turn model that only requires regular rotation for even wear. Furthermore, it comes rolled in a box, quite convenient for seamless delivery and installation. However, if you're a petite person like me, you might need an extra pair of hands to manoeuvre this one considering it weighs approximately 31kg for a double.
Finally, my opinion on the mattress's firmness. As per its description, it has a medium to firm comfort rating. From my brief test in the store, it felt well balanced, offering a substantial support yet not lacking in cosy comfort - particularly suitable for side and back sleepers. But keep in mind, firmness is subjective and depends heavily on body weight and individual comfort preference.
To summarise, the Simba Sleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress does seem to live up to its hype in many aspects; it’s well-crafted with plush, comfortable layers, focuses on breathability, sustainable materials, and targets specific sleep challenges. While it shoehorns in promising elements, its higher price point might not make it a perfect fit for all budgets. In addition, longer-term home use could unveil other pros and cons not apparent in an in-store review.

While the mattress was fairly comfortable, it didn't quite meet my expectations for the price. The heat regulation properties were noticeable, though.
