The quest for the perfect night's sleep is one that often leads us down the rabbit hole of mattress hunting, and on this particular journey, our path led to Bensons for Beds' 'Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress.' As a mattress reviewer, my objective was to scrutinise every feature, the feel, the construction, and even the aesthetics of this widely hyped mattress. Boy, am I eager to share my observations!
When I walked up to the Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress, the first thing that struck me was its plush Damask cover—a luxurious fabric designed for breathability and durability. The texture of the Damask felt soft, a touch that silently promises comfort. However, I must admit that the cover's non-removability did make me raise an eyebrow. Keeping it clean may not be as simple as it would be with a machine-washable cover, and I'd highly recommend investing in a mattress protector.
Love the sensation of a mattress conforming to your exact shape, supporting every curve? Welcome to the world of pocket springs. The Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress boasts 1000 of these, individually adapting to any movement you make. This feature is a real winner, particularly if you share your bed with a partner—it minimises roll-together and ensures both of you get an uninterrupted and independent sleep experience.
Peeling back the layers (metaphorically, of course), the Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress houses a hypoallergenic comfort layer made from 42% recycled materials. Now, as an environmentally conscious consumer, this nod towards sustainability was pleasing. Comfort and eco-friendly? Yes, please! This layer provides an extra dimension of comfort, whilst being gentle on Mother Nature.
This mattress incorporates the age-old technique of hand tufting. For the unacquainted, this process involves pulling the mattress layers together with strong nylon threads to provide increased support and prevent them from moving around. So, you needn't worry about the mattress losing its shape... if turned regularly. Hold up, turned regularly?
In the 21st century, the convenience of one-sided, no-flip mattresses can't be overstated—forget all those back-breaking flip-and-rotate routines. Now, the necessity for regular turns did cast bit of a shadow on the Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress for me. Whilst this certainly ensures longevity, it doesn't necessarily promise the convenience I value. But, hey, if a regular fitness routine is what you're after, consider this a bonus!
On laying down on the mattress, I found it an epitome of what a 'medium' firmness should feel like. It's an ideal balance of comfort and support—gentle on the pressure points and firm enough to maintain optimal spinal alignment. Even with customer reviews boasting about their improved sleep quality and reduced aches, I found myself a tad skeptical. Not that I doubt the comfort—a quick lay down for testing did vouch for that—but maintaining this over longer sleep sessions would be the real test. Unfortunately, my in-store review doesn't extend that far.
So, is the Exminster Ortho Comfort Mattress the 'dream mattress' we all need? As much as I hold back on being overly effusive, I'll admit—this mattress seems to tick a lot of boxes. And those customer reviews certainly endorse it. Still, I have my reservations. The necessity for regular turning and the non-removable cover are indeed minor quibbles, but noteworthy ones. But hey, if these don't bother you much, and the classiness of hand-tufted craftsmanship and technologically advanced pocket springs woo you, then why not? After all, a comfortable and rejuvenating sleep is the goal—and this mattress, from the brief rendezvous we had, promises exactly that.

Feels really supportive and the damask cover adds a touch of luxury, although it's a bit firmer than I expected for a medium level mattress, overall happy with my purchase.
Really supportive yet comfortable mattress. I am enjoying a great night's sleep.
