One of the premier products from Sealy, a brand you must be familiar with if you've spent time in the bed and mattress sector, is the Melbourne Ortho Firm Support Mattress. With its focus on providing innovative features aimed at offering optimal support and comfort, it's a mattress that has caught my eye. I had the pleasure of testing this mattress in-store, and there's plenty to talk about, from its firmness level suitable for particular sleepers, to its well-thought-out, sophisticated construction.
The Sealy Melbourne Ortho Firm Support Mattress comes packed with a host of features that are designed to provide not just sound sleep but also adequate support to your body, especially targeting pressure points. At its core, the mattress has a PostureTech Core Support spring system that offers deep down pressure relief, and the springs gradually get firmer as pressure increases, a thoughtful design indeed. The central zoning PowerPack is one feature that stands out, providing extra support to the lower back and hips, a vital area that often doesn't receive the attention it merits in design. These comfort-enhancing technologies, however, do not compromise the durability or lifespan of the mattress. The mattress has EdgeGuard, which ensures you don't roll off the bed, maximising the sleep surface.
Nestled under the luxurious Belgian Damask Cover are Smartex® fibres that help regulate body temperature—not something you see every day in standard mattresses. The mattress also comprises ReNew Fibres, eco-friendly fibres that are not just breathable but made from a praiseworthy 76% recycled PET plastics. As an eco-conscious individual, this feature significantly impressed me.
The mattress is treated with ProShield®, which keeps allergens at bay. The fabric treatment, endorsed by Allergy UK, offers a clean and comfortable sleep environment, reducing the chances of irritating allergies that can disturb your sleep—a worthy consideration for those who are allergy-prone.
Now, let's talk about comfort. Having tested the mattress myself, I found the firmness to be quite suitable for back sleepers, and even stomach sleepers might find it comfortable. As a mattress expert, I should note that side sleepers or people with hourglass figures might find it challenging to get comfortable due to its firm nature as it might not provide the adequate sinkage needed for their hips and shoulders. Of course, comfort lies in the feel of the sleeper, so sampling it in person can make all the difference.
I closely observed some customer reviews, which were mostly positive. Customers appreciated the comfortable and firm support of the Melbourne Ortho and many noted improved sleep and a significant reduction in joint pain. A few, however, found themselves waking up with aches on the mattress, or highlighted issues with dips forming in the bed over time. As an expert reviewer, I must point out that bedding products can perform differently in a lived-in environment compared to a controlled store setting. It's crucial to rotate and maintain your mattress as per care guidelines. Despite a couple of negative experiences, the mattress seems to have largely lived up to its claims, with many users reporting a higher sleep quality and overall satisfaction.
Overall, the Sealy Melbourne Ortho Firm Support Mattress, with its abundance of features and attention to minute details in design and construction, impressed me greatly. However, I must express some skepticism – nothing should be accepted at face value. Variations in personal comfort levels and sleeping habits are genuine concerns that might affect the overall experience with this mattress. That said, with the affirmative feedback of customers and my own in-store experience, I am inclined to recommend this mattress, especially to back sleepers looking for a firm support system. Be sure to try it for yourself though!

Had a decent night's sleep on this mattress. Comfort is fair, but could offer better support for side sleepers.
