About the Sealy Melbourne Ortho Firm Support Mattress
Last checked
The main fit question is whether the sleeper wants to be held flat rather than cushioned into the mattress. The Sealy Melbourne Ortho is defined by firm, 5 of 5 support, so its character comes less from plush comfort layering and more from high-tension orthopaedic resistance. Firmness is the whole story here. In real bedrooms, that means the surface is intended to keep the spine level for people who lie mostly on their back, but it gives hips and shoulders much less room to drop than a medium pocket-sprung or memory-foam hybrid would. The orthopaedic label should be read as a firmness-and-support claim, not as a sign of personalised zoning or medical-grade pressure relief; for this build style, the spec is conservative and functional rather than comfort-led. A repeated ownership theme is the short adjustment period: the mattress can feel uncompromising at first, especially when replacing an old, sagging bed, before the support starts to feel normal. The no-flip, rotate-only format is a practical plus in the feedback, helped by comments that it is light enough to manoeuvre and easier to manage than bulkier premium hybrids. There is also mention of strong edges and a little bounce, which points to a firmer, more resilient sleep surface rather than a slow-sinking foam feel.
Back sleepers are the natural audience, particularly those who associate morning backache with a tired or dipping mattress and want a flatter, steadier platform. Sleep quality improves for several buyers once the body adjusts, with back support the most repeated positive, and one larger sleeper found the height and firmness made getting out of bed easier. The same firmness creates the main risk. Side sleepers, hourglass figures and anyone with sensitive hips, shoulders or joint pain may find the centre support too assertive, and the lowest-scoring feedback repeatedly centres on pressure, hip discomfort and waking sore rather than on delivery or cosmetic faults. That contradiction is important because it cuts across the broad comfort promise often attached to orthopaedic mattresses: the support can reduce back pain for some, yet aggravate pressure points for others. Stomach sleepers who prefer a firm surface may get on with it, provided the chest and pelvis do not need much cushioning, but lighter side sleepers are the group most likely to feel perched on top. Couples should also note the touch of bounce mentioned in recent feedback; it is not presented as a major flaw, but it will feel livelier than dense foam. It lands well for a back sleeper wanting a high-tension ortho feel and an easy-rotation one-sided mattress; side sleepers with prominent hips or shoulders will have an easier time on a medium or medium-firm pocket-sprung or hybrid mattress with deeper comfort layers.

With the PostureTech Core Support spring system, the bed dynamically reacts to weight increases by eyeing an escalated firmness. This process admirably fosters deep pressure relief, thus paving the way for an undisturbed restful night. However, rest assured, this never compromises the plush feel, marrying support and luxury beautifully.
Smartex® fibres – helps regulate body temperature, keeping you cool and dry
Featuring Smartex® fibres, the benefits you can anticipate include a better night's sleep due to advanced temperature regulation capabilities that ensure a cool and dry sleeping environment. This attribute also aids in promoting a healthier sleep cycle as discomfort due to heat and dampness can be significantly reduced, which can be particularly welcoming for those prone to night sweats or hot flushes.
Hand-tufted – for a supportive feel
Hand-tufting is a meticulous process aimed to secure the mattress layers together, thereby helping to increase the overall longevity and durability. This feature typically indicates a mattress offering improved support and firmness, which could greatly benefit individuals seeking relief from back pain or requiring enhanced spinal alignment while they sleep.
Central zoning PowerPack – gives additional support and pressure relief to your hips and lower back
This unique feature acts like a customized contour map for your body, providing additional support for those weight-bearing areas like hips and lower back. Lovely mattress .Despite its firmness it does have a little bounce to it. I would recommend this to anyone who toss and turns in their sleep, and feels achey in their back when they get up. The double size is perfect not too small or too big,(a bit like Goldilocks!) Bet she didn't have the 'after care' kit which is a great idea.
Very comfortable to sleep on and no longer wake up with aching back.
Great! Peret sleep night after night after night!
The bed is very comfortable but it is not as hard as the one I tried in the shop.I have only had few weeks later so keep my comments until a few more weeks of use Inital
Our new mattress is comfortable and firm and has improved our sleep. The lady who dealt with us gave a good service listening to our needs who was friendly, helpful and professional an fully explained the ordering and delivery service.
This mattress has been a great investment. As a side sleeper I find it comfortable, firm and supportive. Punctual and efficient service from the delivery staff, collected old mattress and supplied new mattress (and bed frame) to inside the property. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase - easy to order and arrange home delivery.
This bed was bought for my son who is a larger person and needs strong support and strength. It does exactly that. It took a week or so to get used to the difference in firmness but his old bed was old and quite low compared to the height and strength of this new one. So much easier for him too get up from. He loves it now and sleeps like a baby . Easy to assemble and the salesman was very knowledgeable. I looked at a couple of shops but this was the best and extremely pleased with my purchase.
I appreciate the firmness of this mattress and it did indeed help with my back pain. I did however have one issue. I experience leg and joint pain and stiffness so personally, I found that the middle of the mattress put unwanted pressure under my hips. Other than that, it's a light bed (easy to rotate) and the edge is very strong but the orthopaedic design did not suit my purposes.
Super comfortable and also light enough to rotate with no issues as advised by Bensons staff
Perfect mattress for me, best sleep in ages and great only having to slide from top to bottom instead of having to turn it over, one sided mattress can't be beaten
I had had my old mattress for a long time and hadn't realised just how bad it was until I got my new mattress. My back was clearly out of alignment and although I was getting a good night's sleep on my new mattress, my back was really hurting in the morning. However I persevered and after five days my back had got used to being properly aligned and I'm very happy with my new mattress. It is very comfortable, gives good support and is light enough for me to turn it easily.
It's taken me a couple of weeks to get used to the Mattress though my partner loved it straight from Day / Night One. We both finally are getting a good nights sleep. Great Mattress highly recommend it
My second Sealy mattress this time slightly less hard very comfortable but all the turning is a bit much for my age (84) next year should be better
Very comfortable and having the best nights sleep for years. Would definitely recommend
