About the Sealy Columbia Ortho Firm Support Mattress
Last checked
Back-pain buyers are the obvious audience for the Sealy Columbia Ortho Firm Support Mattress, because the whole proposition is built around a firm, 5 of 5 feel rather than cushioning softness. This is a support-led mattress. The orthopaedic positioning is achieved through tension first: the surface is meant to hold the sleeper up, keep the spine flatter, and resist the deeper hip-and-shoulder sink that softer comfort builds allow. That is a conservative way to deliver support, closer to traditional firm sprung mattresses than to pressure-relieving memory-foam hybrids, and it suits the price-conscious ortho brief better than it suits anyone expecting a plush top. The useful reading is a surface that gives only briefly before firmer resistance takes over; that matches the stronger praise, where comfort is described as firm without feeling simply hard. A longer owner account also points to a one-sided design and a layered spring feel, with a little initial give over a steadier base, plus reinforced edges that help the sleeper stay level rather than roll towards the side. The spec story is not luxury padding; it is firmness, edge confidence and a fairly direct support feel.
Committed back sleepers are the safest audience here. The repeated praise is about improved support, better sleep and back comfort, with several satisfied buyers treating the firmness as the main reason the mattress works rather than a drawback. Stomach sleepers who dislike sag through the hips may also get on with it, although very light bodies can find a firm ortho surface less forgiving because there is less weight to open up the top layers. Couples get a better signal. The longer feedback highlights reduced roll-together and stronger edges, which fits the reinforced-side comments and makes the mattress more convincing for two people than a softer open-coil style that collapses at the perimeter. The complaints are important, though: criticism centres on the feel being too hard, springs being noticeable, and aches worsening rather than easing, while one poor experience mentions dips and lumps despite turning. Where the firm marketing promises support, the unhappy feedback shows how narrow the comfort window can be if the sleeper needs pressure relief. It lands well for a back sleeper wanting a firm, value-led ortho feel; side sleepers with prominent hips or shoulders, and anyone sensitive to spring feel, have stronger prospects in medium-firm pocket-sprung or pressure-relief hybrid ranges.

Free 5 year guarantee –for peace of mind
Qualifying faults can be repaired or replaced within 5 years without another full purchase, leaving you less exposed if a covered defect appears early. Read the terms, since wear, accidents and poor care may be excluded.
PostureTech Core Support spring system –deep down pressure relieving support, the springs gradually get firmer as pressure increases
Springs compress under body weight, then push back harder where load builds, because heavier areas need steadier resistance without the whole surface dipping. Very light sleepers may find the surface too unyielding.
Mattress height –27cm
At 27cm, the mattress sides lift the sleep surface above the bed frame, because there's more material under you and the edge feels higher when you get up. Check sheet depth, since shallow fitted sheets can ride up.
Made in the UK –exclusively for Bensons for Beds
Factory production should suit standard UK sizing, making pairing less awkward. You won't be able to compare the exact base across different shops, and any future parts or service may depend on the original seller.
ProShield® –a natural treatment in the fabric to keep allergens at bay. Endorsed by Allergy UK
Treated fabric discourages dust mites and pollen from lingering near your face, and may reduce night-time sniffles for allergy-prone sleepers. Allergy UK endorsement isn't a substitute for regular washing.
ReNew Fibres –a highly durable, eco-fibre that improves airflow and offers greater breathability, made from 76% recycled PET plastics
PET-based fibres create tiny channels through the filling, allowing heat and moisture vapour to move away more readily during the night. They won't replace good room ventilation or lighter bedding.
Comfort rating –Firm (also available in Extra Firm as the Sealy Columbia Ortho Extra Firm)
Tighter upholstery and a sturdier spring feel hold the sleeper flatter, reducing the cradled sensation and giving back or front sleepers a more braced surface. Side sleepers may need a softer feel.
Luxury Belgian Damask Cover –soft, breathable, and durable sleeping surface
Woven fabric puts a smoother, less clammy layer next to your sheets. Tight weaves can snag on rough bed frames or jewellery, and freshness depends on regular airing plus careful use of a protector.
Central zoning PowerPack –gives additional support and pressure relief to your hips and lower back
Reinforced middle section steadies the pelvis area, reducing hammock-like dip and allowing your spine to rest in a straighter line. Side sleepers after deep contouring may prefer a softer build.
Smartex® fibres –helps regulate body temperature, keeping you cool and dry
Moisture-wicking fibres draw perspiration away from the cover and spread it out, reducing that clammy layer during overheated nights. Very cold sleepers may prefer a less moisture-focused cover.
Hand-tufted –for a supportive feel
Tufts pull the mattress layers together, giving the surface a firmer, more settled feel under you and reducing loose movement in the filling. Those dimples can be felt through thinner sheets.
EdgeGuard –for added durability, reduces roll-off, and optimises the sleep surface all the way to the edge of the mattress
Reinforced mattress edges brace the perimeter, giving you a steadier border when lying near the side or getting up. Restless sleepers may prefer a wider size.

Fantastic. The mattress was amazing in helping my bad back.
So far, very comfortable, no regret buying it , lovely
It is comfortable now it's been turned a few times . Although it did creak which was strange so hopefully now ok. The staff are friendly and helpful. Contact info very good.. Deliver on time .
Fabulous mattress if you like something a little firmer, which we do. Have been sleeping really well!
We needed a zip and lock mattress for two single beds, but the right size wasn't available. We have opted for these two firm mattresses so we can use them as either singles or pushed together with a mattress topper for a super king size bed. The mattresses are very comfortable and has been great for our guests.
Excellent mattress, having had a Tempur for many years, was so pleased to be finally getting a good nights sleep and waking up with no back pain on a daily basis. Really pleased with purchase and if you like a firm mattress would very much recommend.
The bed and mattress are both good. Delivery happened on the given day and putting the bed together was easy.
Just what I was expecting. It's very well made and looks good. Very comfortable and supports me well
This is a very solid, firm mattress, not helped my back yet but still trying to get used to it!
Mattress felt exactly like it did in the shop. I've slept so much better since having it and far less joint pain
Very good firm mattress. Helped my back issues. Do not need a mattress topper.
I have had this new bed just over 1 month and its so comfortable. Best night sleep for along time.
After replacing our old sealy mattress with the new othopedicc one we can feel and notice the difference. It has given us great support, a comfy night's sleep, no rolling into.one another or the side sleeper falling out of bed thanks to the reinforced sides. Once the plastic smell had gone after the first 47 hours it's been fabulous. Sleep problems resolved. No need to use the promise to change.
Beautiful nights sleep, it is absolutely brilliant. Since having back and sleep issues it is lovely.
Fine once I got used to it. Why do you need such a long reply. Totally unnecessary
Great mattress, really comfortable, light and we are getting really good sleep. Nice to have a firmer mattress so we don't slide into the middle.
Amazingly comfortable mattress - really happy with it - get a great nights sleep
So far so good, I would like to see what it feels like after a couple of months.
10/10 i cannot express how great the mattress is but also how great bensons were every step of the way. I sadly ordered a bed frame from another supplier and the delays, radio silence and sleeping on the floor was really hard. So when Benson's kept their word I cannot express how wonderful it was to have the mattress. It's even better on a bed frame. Worth every penny!
