About the White Playhouse Bed

Last checked

Parents looking at this Dreams Playhouse bed are really buying a low novelty single with play value, not a space-saving high sleeper or a full cabin-bed storage system. The playhouse look is the main event here. Its house-shaped head end, open window cut-outs and white-painted solid pine frame give it a softer, toy-like presence than a plain children’s single, while the optional underbed drawer or pull-out trundle adds either toy storage or an extra sleepover surface. For a novelty kids bed, solid pine rather than MDF is a generous material choice against the usual flat-pack, style-led tier; the safety spec is more basic, with the practical caution coming mainly from Dreams’ 6+ age recommendation rather than from disclosed guard-rail heights, ladder design or bunk-style containment. That makes the format closer to a character single bed than to a regulated bunk or high sleeper, so it suits children who can already get in and out of bed confidently and understand that the house frame is decorative, not climbing equipment. The storage is useful, but not transformative: a trundle improves occasional guest capacity, while a drawer tidies floor clutter without replacing a wardrobe or proper toy unit.

Solid pine and strong slats are the details that line up with the better feedback, with praise clustering around sturdiness, the real-wood feel and how much children enjoy the playhouse shape once it is built. Several families describe it as a bed that helps a younger child feel excited about their own room, and the single-bed footprint gives it a longer runway than a toddler bed, although Dreams’ 6+ guidance means the enthusiastic 4-year-old use in the feedback sits outside the maker’s recommended age band. Assembly is the main practical sting. Criticism centres on unclear instructions, similar-looking unlabelled parts and self-tapping screws, so this is not the easiest build for anyone who dislikes trial-and-error flat-pack work; the drawer also attracts repeated grumbles, with alignment issues and awkward base panels making the storage element feel less polished than the main frame. The sleepover option is the more convincing use of the underbed space, provided the room has enough clearance to pull it out, and one fit comment flags checking mattress sizing carefully rather than assuming every standard single arrangement will drop in without thought. Best for children aged 6+ who want a playful wooden single with occasional sleepover or storage use. Less good for fast assembly, very tight rooms or precision drawer storage, who would do better with a simpler standard single frame or a higher-tier cabin bed with guided underbed drawers.

Solid wooden slatted base - offers firm mattress support

A solid wooden slatted base provides excellent stability, ensuring durability and support for the mattress over time. This feature enhances the longevity of the mattress by promoting better air circulation, which prevents moisture buildup and supports a comfortable night's sleep.

Painted wooden finish - classic wood grain enhanced with colour

Painted wood keeps the natural grain visible while adding a coloured look, which suits bedrooms that want warmth without a plain timber finish. Fine, expect paint to show chips and scratches sooner than an untreated surface, so it may need touch-ups if knocked.

Single spacious storage drawer - handy for keeping your bedroom organised

Hassle-free maintenance - effortless cleaning for no-fuss refreshes

This Playhouse bed ticks all the boxes for a fun and exciting bed for your child to sleep in. The drawer underneath is great for extra storage or can be used with a mattress to create a pull-out bed for an exciting sleeper over with friends.

amazing bed for our daughter. she loves it!. only criticism is if there was a bracket/runners for the bottom drawer just to prevent the drawer moving out of line.

Lovely bed and our little one adores it. Good, sturdy quality. Really cant fault the product itself however building it wasnt great. Parts arent labelled and all look quite similar. Easy to get it wrong and takes longer than we thought.

Lovely bed. We assembled ourselves. Instructions were good and it was largely easy to assemble, apart from the drawer underneath. The 3 panels which form the base were supposed to slide into joiners and then the whole lot slides in to the bottom. Only nothing slid. So the drawer has no bottom. But it does have slats for the extra mattress. So its not so bad.

Great bed for my child and can be used for sleepovers but you have to buy a different size mattress

Super bed. Good quality. Takes a little time and effort to put together. Excellent for kids (my child is 4) and will last him for a good few years (as long as I take the roof and window off eventually). Made from real wood, not MDF, strong slats. This is is a bed that will last, looks good, and the children will be happy with - helping them to adjust to life as young batchelors.

It looks good when assembled, but the overall quality of the product is disappointing given the price. The assembly instructions were very hard to follow, and multiple steps rely on self-tapping screws.
