About the Northwood Wooden Day Bed
Last checked
A matte white wooden frame, panelled ends and solid slats put the Northwood in the traditional day-bed camp rather than the metal guest-bed or sofa-bed camp. The construction is deliberately simple: a painted timber frame with a three-sided lounging shape, intended to sit against a wall in a child’s room, spare room or compact flat, with the slatted base forming the sleeping platform. Solid slats are the sensible choice here. Compared with sprung-slatted bedsteads, they give a flatter, firmer platform and fewer moving parts, which suits a day bed that may be used as seating as well as an occasional sleep surface; the trade-off is that comfort will lean more heavily on the mattress because the base itself is not adding much give. The useful design decision is the choice between an underbed drawer and a sleepover trundle, because those are genuinely different jobs rather than decorative extras. A drawer turns the frame into storage for bedding, toys or spare clothes, while the trundle turns the same footprint into guest capacity. That is more practical than a fixed low drawer on a standard single bed, but less seamless than an ottoman-style storage bed where the whole mattress platform lifts.
The painted wooden finish is the main reason this suits rooms where the bed has to look like furniture during the day, not just somewhere to sleep at night. Praise tends to cluster around the clean look, the tidy footprint and the way it replaces a bulkier double or guest bed without making the room feel temporary; one longer piece of feedback even describes it being used successfully as a sofa-like resting place for someone who had resisted sleeping in a conventional bed. Small-room use comes through clearly. The optional trundle also matches the comments about children’s rooms and spare rooms, because it keeps the second sleeping space hidden until needed rather than asking the room to carry a permanent extra bed. Quality is more mixed than the plain “sturdy wooden frame” claim suggests: several positive ratings describe the frame as good value for the finish, but the weaker feedback centres on faults arriving with the bed or showing up during assembly, including damaged paintwork and misaligned drilled holes. That is a quality-control issue, not a design feature, and it carries extra weight on a painted white frame because dents, scratches and imperfect joins are harder to ignore than on a rustic or darker timber bed. If the brief is a neat white day bed for a child’s room, guest room or small flat, this works. If daily adult use, heavy traffic or a more robust assembly experience is the priority, a heavier solid-wood guest bed in the higher price tier makes more sense.

Really happy with this purchase, the quality for price is great and it fits perfectly in my small apartment.
This is a brilliant frame for your kids room or even in a spare room for guests. The option to add a drawer is a great way to keep your room tidy.

The bed is a simple but elegant design and would fit into almost any decor. I initially thought it a little expensive, although I would say it does offer value for money in terms of quality. I searched but could not find anything to compete with it
I purchased this for my spare teen so its not been used as yet.
Its a good bed but the two top panels at either end were drilled incorrectly so the holes didnt match up to the dowels hence one star for design
A beautiful looking day bed, perfect for the guest room. I've put cushions on it so it looks like a sofa but it can be used as a spare bed if necessary.
We swapped a double bed for this Day Bed for my friend who has Alzheimers-up to this point she has been sleeping in a chair. Well we maned it a sofa and she lies on it every night. That means her feet are elevated at last.
My daughter had a bed in mind and didnt stop looking until she found it. Dreams were brilliant and she got exactly what she wanted.
