About the Northwood Kids Wooden Triple Bunk Bed

Last checked

Solid wooden construction, a painted white finish and a double-under-single bunk layout define the Northwood, rather than upholstery, metal rails or a novelty theme. The double-under-single layout is the main event. It is a children’s triple bunk, with a double lower bed, a single upper bunk, panelled head and foot ends, and a ladder that can be fixed at either end so the access side can work with the room rather than dictating it. The construction call here is straightforward: compared with fixed metal triple sleepers, a wooden bunk that can separate into a double bed and a single bed is the more flexible family build, while the traditional white paint and framed panels keep it in mainstream bedroom furniture territory rather than the utilitarian spare-room look. Optional underbed storage or a trundle is part of the system, so the space beneath the lower bed can be made to handle bedding, toys or an occasional fourth sleep space; that is useful, but it also means buyers need to choose between storage and a pull-out guest function rather than assuming both at once. The age guidance matters too, with the upper bunk aimed at children aged six and above.

Space saving is strongest when the room has siblings, visiting grandchildren or a spare-room brief where three people need proper beds without three separate frames. The most consistent praise centres on exactly that: children gaining their own sleeping areas, families using it for sleepovers, and grandparents turning one spare room into a more useful guest room; the solid feel and clean white finish also come through often enough to support the manufacturer’s family-bedroom positioning. Assembly is the first snag. A recurring practical frustration is awkward instructions, particularly where parts are not clearly numbered, and paid assembly appears to have made the experience smoother in at least some recent feedback. Clearance is the bigger fit issue: one low rating says the upper bunk sits close enough to the lower bed to cause head bumps, so taller children or adults using the bottom double every night should treat the vertical space as carefully as the floor footprint. The stability picture is also mixed, because general praise calls the frame sturdy while a serious complaint describes a correctly assembled bed as shaky and unsafe, a direct challenge to the solid-wood reassurance on the spec sheet; an odd paint smell is another lower-score gripe, though less widely echoed. If a household is furnishing a child’s shared room or occasional family guest space, this works; if everyday adult use, generous bunk clearance or low-risk self-assembly are the priority, a full-size low bunk or separate wooden beds make more sense.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Owners appreciate the solid build, reporting it feels stable during use.
  • Multiple buyers found it ideal for accommodating guests in spare rooms.
  • Recent purchasers noted the ability to convert it into separate beds as a significant advantage.
  • Parents highlighted their children's enjoyment of the bed during sleepovers.

Cons

  • Several owners flagged that assembly instructions were confusing and difficult to follow.
  • A few customers reported the top bunk's height causing head bumps for taller children.
  • Some reviews mentioned an unpleasant paint smell that took time to dissipate.
  • A low rating highlighted safety concerns due to perceived shakiness in the structure.

Solid wooden slatted base - offers firm mattress support

A solid wooden slatted base provides excellent stability, ensuring durability and support for the mattress over time. This feature enhances the longevity of the mattress by promoting better air circulation, which prevents moisture buildup and supports a comfortable night's sleep.

Painted wooden finish - classic wood grain enhanced with colour

Painted wood keeps the natural grain visible while adding a coloured look, which suits bedrooms that want warmth without a plain timber finish. Fine, expect paint to show chips and scratches sooner than an untreated surface, so it may need touch-ups if knocked.

Space saving bunk bed - perfect for shared rooms and sleepovers

Hassle-free maintenance - effortless cleaning for no-fuss refreshes

Solid, functional, and provides ample sleep space in a small area. Quality finish, definitely adding charm to the bedroom.

Good solid bed and looks great but really creaky from day one. Can hear it in tje next room every time.my daughter moves. Not ideal for my child on bottom bunk. We paid more for this bed hoping it wouldn't creak like a cheap bed but no joy with that. Other than that is a lovely bed.

Lovely bed but just be aware the gap between the bottom bed and the top bunk is small.

This is the perfect solution for our spare room. Means have room for 3 people to sleep over, double at the bottom and single at the top. Ideal for a visiting family. The bed is really solid and a nice quality finish too. Really impressed it and easy to build. Delivery was only 7 days too which was handy.
