The world of sleep is a wonderland of rejuvenation and comfort, something every one of us cherishes, whether it's a power nap to rejuvenate the senses, or our nightly hibernation to recharge our bodies for another day. But the quality of that sleep, especially nightly sleep, heavily hinges on the piece of furniture where you lay down - the mattress.
Enter the Simply Natural Pocket Sprung Mattress, a product that caught my attention as I roamed in the Bensons store in quest of the perfect sleep aide. The name itself sparks curiosity and conjured an image of a bed that's a tribute to natural resources and comfort, and with the specs, it seemed to live up to that image.
An elaborate spec list is enough to whet any mattress reviewer's interest, and it wasn't long until I decided to put this mattress to the test. With 800 pocket springs that adapt to body movements, the mattress promises exceptional support that is personalised to each sleeper. Its soft-touch knit cover and quilted sleep surface promise a luxurious comfort, while edge support ensures durability and reduced roll-off. An exciting addition is the Truecomfort layer that's a nod to sustainability – it comprises 75% recycled PET plastic, meaning more than 100 plastic bottles have been put to good use in a double-sized mattress!
I was intrigued by the bamboo fibres – warm yet breathable, they’re renewably sourced and hypoallergenic. Integrated with temperature regulating Tencel™ fibres, they seemed to promise a clean and healthy sleeping environment, something I was eager to experience firsthand.
My trial at the Bensons store was a fascinating hands-on experience. Lying on the mattress, I noticed the firm tension that pillows the body right where it matters. As a back sleeper, I found the support pleasurable, but I could tell it might not be as appealing to side sleepers or those with more rounded figure. There's a distinct need for a mattress that accommodates the curvature at the hips and shoulders, something this firm setup may struggle with. Some customer reviews also seemed to express similar sentiments, which only confirmed my observation.
That said, the mattress scores well in terms of sustainability and eco-friendliness. The Truecomfort layer's role in cushioning and breathability, made from recycled plastic, was truly impressive. It was a smooth, firm comfort that catered particularly to a back sleeper like me. What could have been an uncomfortable pushback from a firmer mattress was in fact a comforting, full-body hug.
Now, I have to say, more than just being in store, having a true measure of a bed's worthiness requires trying it out in our own homes, which unfortunately, I couldn't do with this one. So, while the mattress made a good impression overall, I cannot completely vouch for the same level of comfort across all seasonal changes and long-term use. I was also slightly skeptical about how the firm tension might fare with people bearing different sleeping positions and body types over time.
Coming in Medium or Firm comfort choices, I can see the Simply Natural Pocket Sprung Mattress being a great fit for back sleepers and those who prefer a sleep environment that is aligned with sustainability and support. However, I wouldn't unreservedly recommend it to side sleepers, or those who enjoy a plusher, more luxurious feel from their mattress. For them, a different solution might provide that perfect, restful slumber we all crave.
In conclusion, while I admire the Simply Natural Pocket Sprung Mattress for its innovative use of sustainable materials, and the level of support and comfort it offers (especially to back sleepers like myself), its firm tension could be a potential deal breaker for side sleepers, or those with more rounded figures. This is not to dismiss its clear merits, but simply to suggest that mattress selection is a personal decision, tailored to individual comfort and preference.

Decent mattress overall. Noticed a bit more support in back sleep areas but less comfort for side sleeping. Cover feels smooth and mattress seems to maintain a good temperature throughout the night.
Very comfortable bed and good sized small single . Value for money.
