About the Grantham Ortho Backcare Mattress
Last checked
For buyers weighing posture support above plush comfort, the Bensons for Beds Grantham Ortho Backcare Mattress is defined by its tension more than by any disclosed comfort-stack detail: firm, 5 of 5. This is firmness doing the work. In practical terms, that means the mattress is intended to hold the sleeper higher on the surface, resisting the deeper hip-and-shoulder sink that softer memory-foam hybrids are built to allow. The “Ortho Backcare” wording should be read as a tension-led support promise, not as evidence of zoned springs or profile-aware engineering; honest enough as a simple firm mattress proposition, but conservative compared with better-specified pocket-sprung or hybrid tiers that show how support is being delivered under load. The feel should therefore be flatter, tauter and less enveloping, with the spine encouraged into a straighter line mainly because the surface gives less. That can be useful for back sleepers who dislike saggy cushioning, but it also means comfort depends heavily on whether the sleeper’s body shape can tolerate limited contouring. Without a named latex, wool, mini-spring or memory-foam layer to soften the landing, the value case rests on straightforward firmness rather than material generosity.
Back sleeping is where the specification and the positive reviews line up most clearly: several people describe improved sleep, good comfort and a sense of decent quality, especially when bought at a reduced price. Stomach sleepers who need the pelvis held up may also get on with the firm surface, though lighter people and those with pronounced curves can find this kind of tension unforgiving because the mattress gives the shoulder and hip less room to settle. The warning sign is early dipping. Lower-rated reviews repeatedly mention body impressions or a sinking middle within the first few weeks, including from lighter sleepers, which cuts against the backcare pitch because a firm mattress that develops a dip stops behaving like a firm mattress in the place support matters most. Firmness perception is also inconsistent: one unhappy buyer wanted something firmer, while another recent account found the chosen version too hard, so the 5-of-5 label is a guide rather than a guarantee of comfort. Couples with a weight difference should be cautious, as a simple firm feel can suit the heavier back sleeper while leaving the lighter side sleeper perched on top of the surface. If the aim is a firm, flat-feeling mattress for mainly back sleeping, this works; if pressure relief for side sleeping or stronger evidence of long-term shape retention matters more, a better-specified pocket-sprung or hybrid tier makes more sense.

The impressions area little worrying after 4 weeks. We are both light weights is this normal
Hard to review, this is really advice to other buyers. There is nothing wrong with the mattress except we ordered the wrong one we were going for Grantham backcare which is firm not extra firm which is this one. Then not realising that Benson do a 40 day return if you don't find the bed comfortable (very useful except now over 4month have past) and had someone saying you will get use to it and it will settle down :-[ until they slept on it and said yep too firm. Delivery and shop staff good wish we had brought in the shop rather than coming home leaving it a week then looking online to purchase as obviously had forgotten was comfortable.
I got this mattress on 50% off sale. I chose extra firm and it is still very comfortable to sleep on it. The quality of mattress is very good and it is totally worth the price.
Having visited the store we chose this mattress not only because it was very competitively priced but appeared very well made and most importantly, on trying it at the store felt really supportive and comfy. Having used it for some weeks it has proved to be a great buy.
This new mattress is perfect. It retailed at £1kK and we got it at 50% discount. Who ever knew we would require a nice firm mattress
we are finding the mattress is sinking quite a bit. if it gets worse we will be in touch
I was happy with the sale man and workers who delivered the bed . All knew their work and had good customer care. My bed is very comfortable. I am happy with it.
Lovely mattress, very comfortable and I sleep well. I prefer a firmer mattress myself and tried a few in the store before I decided upon this one. Very pleased.
if you like a good firm mattress this one fits the bill .
Lovely. Extremely pleased and now having a good night's sleep. Excellent value.
Good mattress, very firm just what i need for my back
So far I'm really pleased with my new mattress. But feel the design is very dated with the dimples in it. It reminded me of the mattress we had years ago. The customer service was brilliant however from salesman to delivery. Very personable staff & came at the time slot we were allocated polite & took their shoes off
Very comfortable mattress and great quality would definitely recommend this product
I gave it 3 stars as Good enough mattress but too hard for me as I got the extra firm. Bensons are changing it with no trouble and I opted to pay more for a different one, my choice. It would suit someone with back problems as it is a well made mattress.
Love it so comfy best nights sleep would recommend
Very firm bed, perfect for us. Smelt of chemicals for the first week, but it's normal and cleared up soon after.
I love the new mattress. Sleep well no pain. Also bed is great too I had that type of bed before but with storage space.Good quality I moved many times and it was still like new I sold it because I wanted a change without storage.
Very easy to assemble. Great for storage and looks great. Very comfortable to sleep on and good value for money.
Really amazing, I loved it, it's so comfortable I'm glad I bought it
I am very happy with my mattress, very firm as I wanted, but very comfortable. All as I was told when I was helped by excellent manager to choose it.very Impressive
