About the Little Star Extra Deep Pocket Sprung Kids Mattress

Last checked

A child moving into a first proper bed is the obvious brief for the Little Star Extra Deep Pocket Sprung Kids Mattress, rather than a toddler cot transition or an adult spare-bed mattress. It is sold as medium, 3 out of 5, with a traditional pocket-sprung core, so each spring is intended to react more independently under a child’s hips, shoulders and legs than a basic open-coil unit would. That is a sensible construction choice for a 5+ children’s mattress: pocket springs are more grown-up than the cheapest linked-spring builds, but without a stated spring count or comfort-layer stack, the support story is still more straightforward than the £700+ pocket-sprung adult tier. The practical care spec is the standout. A removable cover washable at 40°C, water-repellent surface, wipe-clean inner protection, anti-allergy fabric and PVC-free finish all point to a mattress designed around accidents, dust sensitivity and everyday parent maintenance, not luxury cushioning. The breathable claim also sits alongside that hygiene brief, although water-repellent surfaces can change the feel and sound of a mattress more than a plain fabric cover. Care features carry the specification here.

For bedtime reading, side sleeping and children who like a slightly sturdier sleep surface, the medium label suggests a useful middle ground, and the more satisfied families describe comfortable nights, a smooth move into a first big bed and children waking happily rather than complaining about pressure. Adult weight is not the target, but one parent found it usable for the odd night, which fits the pocket-sprung construction better than a very thin foam kids mattress would. The repeated clash is firmness: several lower-scoring experiences say the mattress feels much harder than its medium description, especially for a 10-year-old and for side sleeping, so the marketing promise of balanced comfort does not land for every child. Noise also appears in the feedback, with a crackling or inflating sound noticed when an adult moves away after lights-out; that complaint is consistent with the sort of protective, water-repellent surface that helps with spills but can be less silent than untreated ticking. Edge compression is another caution for floor beds, where sitting on the side for stories can squash the border and may encourage sloping if the mattress is not rotated. It lands well for a school-age child who needs a wipe-clean, breathable, pocket-sprung mattress and is comfortable on a firmer-feeling bed; a pressure-sensitive side sleeper, or a child already rejecting firm mattresses, should be matched with a plusher children’s pocket-sprung or foam-comfort model instead.

Really comfy and supportive, my kid sleeps through and the cover wipes clean which is handy. Feels a bit on the firm side but still a good buy.

Amazing mattress, purchased two for a bunk bed the top one slightly thicker and the bottom one not as thick. Both amazing quality and very comfortable. They will last a long time. Very happy with my purchase.

I feel like i should only give this one star as we bought it for our grandaughters bed and she loves it so much and finds it so comfortable that she keeps going upstairs to read books in her bed instead of having fun with us. Im starting to miss her! Having jokingly said that, she is sleeping through the night on it and is no longer waking at 2, 3 or 4 for drinks or any other number of things.

This mattress seems just right in terms of softness verses support for our two and a half year old. The breathable top layer seems to be good quality and so far we have had no issues. Overall, we are very pleased.

We had an idea what we wanted so deciding and ordering was straightforward. A good wait on delivery - do not expect it in a week. As much as the delivery lads were friendly they firstly delivered the wrong bed. I had not realised at first as trusted that it was correct and was later going to put it together after work. Got a call from the other half saying they delivered the wrong one and they were on the way back. Fortunately for them I had not opened it, but it came across as a mad panic for them as they hefted one bed out and rush to put the other bed up the stairs as they scuffed black marks on my wall this time- they did apologies and most of it has come off but not all. Once unwrapped, noted there was a heavy black scuff mark on the base- fortunately you cannot see it. Also mud on wrapper so had to be careful taking that off to not get everywhere or on myself. To be honest, could not be arsed with too-ing and thro-ing with complaining and booking off time off work for it to be swapped or compensated with a meagre amount versus what you pay. It is a nice bed, just alittle more care either delivery service and ensuring no marks on it.

The mattress fits well in the Anderson mid sleeper bed. Not that we expect to need this but it is made with a waterproof cover that unzips for washing. Our granddaughter says it is very comfortable.

I bought this for my 6 year old. She says it is very comfortable. The fact it has a waterproof removable cover is a bonus and make cleaning the mattress very simple. I have had an adult guest sleep on this mattress too, and they said it was very comfortable too.

Great mattress for kids. Good support & the removable cover is great if your little one has accidents. The only thing that lets it down is how difficult it is to get the removable protector on & off. You have to pull it all the way down the mattress and it is quite snug. My daughter has the older version of this mattress and it zips off all the way round. Im not sure why they changed this as the older design was much easier.
