About the Jay-Be Rowan Folding Bed with e-Fibre Mattress

Last checked

For spare-room sleepovers and occasional overnight use, the Rowan is really a folding guest bed rather than a mattress in the normal bedroom sense: a rollaway frame on 360-degree locking castors, eight supporting legs and a slim e-Fibre sleep surface, with an option to move up to Memory e-Fibre made from at least 70% recycled polyester. The eight-leg base is the stronger part of the proposition. For a folding bed, that is generous compared with basic camp-bed and budget z-bed construction, where the mattress often has to compensate for a less evenly supported frame. The e-Fibre mattress is a practical, conservative choice: lighter, breathable and easier to fold away than a full foam or pocket-sprung guest mattress, but not built to deliver the contouring depth expected from a permanent bed. Memory e-Fibre changes the feel more than the fundamentals, adding pressure relief without becoming a traditional memory-foam slab. The small headboard is useful rather than decorative, mainly stopping the pillow migrating backwards. This is convenience-led engineering, not a disguised everyday mattress.

Households needing an extra adult bed for short stays are the clearest fit, especially where the bed has to live against a wall or in storage between visits. Praise repeatedly centres on comfort being better than expected for a foldaway, easy storage, and a frame that feels robust rather than flimsy; the slim folded profile is also a common win in smaller homes. The packaging and low-plastic presentation draw approving comments too, which lines up with the recycled-polyester emphasis in the Memory e-Fibre option. Mattress softness is the risk point: the sharpest negative experience describes back pain after one night and a need for a thicker replacement, so heavier adults, front sleepers and anyone already sensitive to lumbar sag may find the standard e-Fibre surface too forgiving. Back and occasional side sleepers of average build are more likely to get on with it for a night or two, while couples are largely outside the intended use because this is a single rollaway format rather than a shared sleep system. The Rowan suits homes that need a compact, mobile guest bed for occasional adults or teenagers; those prioritising nightly back support should look instead at a full-depth guest bed with a pocket-sprung or deeper foam mattress.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Owners appreciate the ease of folding and storing the bed when not in use.
  • Buyers find the mattress depth adequate for a good night's sleep.
  • Several customers note that the bed is stable with eight supporting legs.
  • Recent reviews highlight the effective delivery and packaging without plastic waste.

Cons

  • One owner found the mattress too soft, causing back pain after one night's use.
  • Users suggest replacing the mattress for a significantly better sleeping experience.
  • Heavier individuals feel the need for a thicker mattress for proper support.
  • Some reviews mention the pull-out bed being cumbersome to set up for frequent use.

Specifications

Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.

Made locally in the UK - British craftsmanship at its finest

Expertly crafted locally, this specification ensures exceptional quality and supports local industry. Buying products made in the UK often results in superior durability and reduced environmental impact due to shorter transportation distances.

Solid platform top base - offers sturdy mattress support

Expect a firmer, steadier feel with fewer dips, which can help a mattress keep its shape and feel consistent. Airflow under the bed may be lower than with slats, so heat and moisture can build up more in warm rooms or with foam mattresses.

Convenient folding design - easy to store between overnight stays

Sleep-ready mattress included - creating a 10cm sleep surface

The rollaway bed is perfect to store away and pull out for guests. The mattress is very comfortable but you can upgrade to the memory foam for a luxury sleepover.
