About the Jay-Be Aspen Folding Bed with Pocket Sprung Mattress
Last checked
A pocket-sprung mattress on a folding guest frame is the Aspen’s defining choice, putting this Jay-Be above the simpler foam pads often fitted to occasional folding beds. Pocket springs are generous here. Individual springs should respond more independently under a sleeper than a flat foam slab, while traditional tufting helps keep the e-Fibre comfort layers from shifting as the bed is folded, stored and opened again. The practical limit is the platform beneath them, because a shallow folding frame cannot behave like a full-depth divan or a fixed slatted base, however comfortable the mattress layer sounds on paper. It remains a guest-bed compromise. The headboard and foot end are useful details rather than styling fluff, giving pillows and bedding a stop point on a compact frame, and the eight-leg layout with 360-degree locking castors is a stronger stability story than the two-bar or four-leg frames common on cheaper folding beds. The plain-English reading is that the comfort spec is better than basic emergency bedding, but the support system is still split between mattress and mechanism, so the pocket-sprung label does not make it equivalent to a normal single bed.
Short stays are the Aspen’s natural territory, especially where the bed has to be rolled out, locked in place and folded away between visits. Comfort is the main repeat praise: guests have described it as supportive enough for several nights, and the pocket-sprung mattress gives more proper-bed feel than many expect from a folding frame. Width is the awkward surprise. One detailed complaint centres on expecting a 3ft single and finding the sleeping surface closer to 32 inches, while another practical gripe is the low height from the floor, which can make rising harder for anyone with reduced mobility. The support claim also divides the experience: positive feedback treats it as a comfortable spare bed, but a low-scoring case says the fabric platform sagged under body weight, so the mattress specification alone cannot be read as a guarantee of firm support for every adult. Lighter-to-average sleepers using it occasionally are the safest match, while heavier adults or anyone needing dependable everyday back support may expose the limits of the folding base. The e-Fibre filling reads as practical and low-maintenance rather than a breathable natural-fibre comfort layer, and there is no strong heat-retention pattern in the feedback. If the need is a compact spare bed for short guest visits, this works. If regular adult use, easier rising or full single-bed width are priorities, a standard single divan or higher-spec guest-bed tier makes more sense.

Specifications
Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.
Made locally in the UK - British craftsmanship at its finest
Expertly crafted locally, this specification ensures exceptional quality and supports local industry. Buying products made in the UK often results in superior durability and reduced environmental impact due to shorter transportation distances.
Solid platform top base - offers sturdy mattress support
Expect a firmer, steadier feel with fewer dips, which can help a mattress keep its shape and feel consistent. Airflow under the bed may be lower than with slats, so heat and moisture can build up more in warm rooms or with foam mattresses.
Convenient folding design - easy to store between overnight stays
Sleep-ready mattress included - creating a 10cm sleep surface

The Aspen folding bed feels supportive with its pocket-sprung mattress, and comes with a headboard for extra comfort.
Beware, on July 4th 2024I bought this bed as a 3ft single bed i.e. 36inches wide, as described on the first page of the bed description, it is necessary to scroll down to where it says dimensions to find that the bed actually measures a full 4 inches narrower at 32 inches. Unfortunately, when looking at the website in the shop, I was looking with the salesman and did not have the opportunity to explore the description beyond the first page. I ordered and paid for the bed to be somewhat disappointed when it was delivered to find the true measurement. I contacted customer service and, eventually, was offered a £30 refund an apology and that the description would be amended to show the correct measurements. I have received the refund but no apology and today 24th July the website description is just as it was nearly 3 weeks ago. My experience in the shop was absolutely fine the salesman was charming, polite and helpful but direct contact with customer services was another story it was only through prolonged back and forth chat on the helpline that I eventually reached a point where I could let it go, until the request for feedback came today!
Our recent guest said the bed was very comfortable (5 nights). Very easy to manoeuvre and quick to set up.
I am pleased with this bed as an occasional sleeping arrangement its good its very liw to the floor so if you have trouble getting up it will be difficult shame it doesn't come with a cover and i personally found moving it awkward but its tall and im only little under 5ft
