About the Dreams Workshop Russon Traditional Spring Mattress

Last checked

Buyers looking at the Dreams Workshop Russon are getting a traditional spring mattress rather than a contouring hybrid: an open-coil support unit, a wool comfort layer, a soft-touch damask cover and deep tufting to hold the fillings under tension. Its feel is firm, 5 of 5. The wool layer is the interest here. For an open-coil mattress, using sheep’s wool is a more generous comfort choice than relying solely on polyester wadding, because wool buffers warmth and moisture better than basic synthetic padding; the spring unit itself is the conservative part when set beside the pocket-sprung tier, where each spring reacts more independently under shoulders, hips and partner movement. The practical result should be a flatter, more uniform push-back across the body rather than close contouring. Deep tufting adds durability and keeps the surface from feeling loose or pillowy, but it also reinforces the firmer character, so the Russon is better understood as a supportive, traditional build with a natural top layer than as a plush wool mattress. The damask cover points the same way: smooth and familiar, not stretchy or foam-hugging.

Open-coil springs and wool make most sense for back sleepers, some front sleepers and guest-room use, where firm support, easy turning and a breathable surface matter more than pressure relief. Firm support is doing the main work. Repeated praise centres on comfortable, settled sleep, with several experiences describing fewer wake-ups, less morning soreness and a feel that is supportive without being board-like; the recent temperature comments also line up with the foam-free wool specification, with the mattress described as not overly warm. The more critical feedback centres on the build feeling fairly standard, with one clear complaint that the springs can be felt and a topper may be needed, while another notes it is thinner than a previous mattress even though comfort remained good. Side sleepers, especially those with pronounced hips and shoulders, are the obvious mismatch because an open-coil, tufted firm surface gives less local sink than medium pocket-sprung mattresses or memory-foam hybrids. Couples should also expect more shared movement than from individually pocketed springs, particularly if one person turns often or body weights differ. Best for back sleepers wanting firm, breathable, traditional support. Less good for side sleepers needing cushioning at the hip and shoulder, who would do better with a medium pocket-sprung or hybrid mattress tier.

Soft enough to be very comfortable, but firm enough to give good level of support, double sided is a nice option and as it's not too heavy it's easy to flip over, also found I didn't get overly warm at night as it's foam free

Ive had the mattress for about a month now and have gone japanese style where it is laid on the floor. I have slept so comfortably since getting it. Its genuinely been game changing, I sleep long nights where I wake up with goo in my eyes, an insatiable need to stretch and inability to get out of bed! I feel much better and less anxious thanks to this - very pleased with the purchase. That being said, I dont thînk Im a hard sell. Mattress is fairly firm and temperature control is great.

Very pleasantly surprised with this mattress. I wasn't expecting the highest of luxury but the quality combined with such a great night's sleep are truly remarkable. Going from waking several time with my old mattress to almost not waking at all is quite literally the dream, and with this mattress it's a dream come true. Can't see myself looking for another mattress now until I want a different size. Thoroughly recommend this one and can attest to a great night sleep.

Got this in the sale and seemed excellent value, though not entirely natural, Im happy that the outer layer at least is wool as I could not afford a fully natural mattress. So far its seems comfortable however I have not had the chance to try it for very long, firm not soggy but with a good spring
