About the Dream Team Totnes Pocket Sprung Mattress

Last checked

A shopper looking for a no-nonsense firm mattress is the obvious target here: the Dream Team Totnes 1600 Pocket Ortho is a pocket-sprung, traditionally tufted, double-sided mattress rated firm, 5 of 5, with a knitted cover and a springy Platinum 3D comfort layer above the support unit. This is honest orthopaedic territory. A 1600-pocket count is a healthy mid-range spring specification for this kind of firm mattress, well ahead of basic open-coil mattresses for individual compression, though it is still a straightforward support story rather than the more elaborate multi-layer feel found in higher-priced hybrids. The orthopaedic claim comes mainly from the firm tension, the pocket springs and the tufting, which pulls the fillings tight and gives the surface a more held, less plush character. Platinum 3D is the unusual part of the build: in plain terms it is there to add airy resilience and pressure relief without the slow sink of memory foam, so the surface should feel springier and more immediate. The double-sided design is a practical durability plus, because flipping spreads wear across both faces rather than asking one comfort surface to do all the work.

The firm surface and pocket unit put back sleeping first, with some front sleepers also likely to appreciate the resistance through the hips, while side sleepers with pronounced shoulders or hourglass figures may struggle to get enough give at the hip and shoulder. Sleep quality and back or neck comfort are repeated positives, especially from firm-mattress fans, and the support is often described as steady rather than saggy; the pocket springs also make more sense for shared beds than an open-coil unit because movement is absorbed spring by spring, with partner disturbance coming through as a minor strength in the fuller feedback. The firmer feel narrows the audience. The complaint pattern centres on comfort mismatch: lumpy dips, an uncomfortably thick feel and the need for a topper all appear in the weaker feedback, so the tufted, held-down surface can feel supportive to one sleeper and unforgiving to another. Temperature is also mixed; the spec leans on a breathable Platinum 3D layer and knitted cover, yet a heat-trapping top is raised as a pain point, so hot sleepers should treat the cooling claim cautiously rather than assuming a notably cool mattress. If the sleeper is a committed back sleeper wanting firm, steady orthopaedic support, this works. If the sleeper is curvy, side-dominant or easily overheated, a softer pocket-sprung mattress or a breathable hybrid tier makes more sense.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Numerous owners report significant relief from back and neck pain after switching to this mattress.
  • Buyers highlight the firmness of the mattress as providing excellent support throughout the night.
  • Many customers appreciate the ability to flip the mattress for extended durability and freshness.
  • Owners mention that the mattress remains cool and comfortable without overheating during sleep.

Cons

  • Several customers described the mattress as excessively thick, making it difficult to sit on the edge.
  • Some reviews noted deep dips in the mattress, leading to discomfort and a lumpy feel.
  • A few owners flagged issues with heat retention, finding it too warm for optimal sleep.
  • Low ratings indicate that the mattress may not suit those expecting a soft feel, particularly side sleepers.

Firm and supportive, ideal for back sleepers. Top-notch quality and the option to rotate regularly adds to its durability.

Excellent mattress, very supportive and firm. Heavy mattress but has handles on both sides to rotate and turn as double sided.

Just the mattress I needed. I used to wake up with back and neck pain so decided on this mattress. I now sleep so well and do not suffer with my back whilst sleeping. This is a firm mattress but it works wonders for me.

This is a lovely mattress, without buttons, so no pressing into my hips. The mattress retains warmth, so good for someone who is cooler, but maybe a little warm for the hotter person. Overall a lovely purchase

Clean design and a very firm mattress. The quality of the mattress is good with the fabrics feeling good to the touch. The mattress is supportive with just the right amount of padding to be comfortable whilst giving plenty of suppport.

What heaven it has been to sleep every night on this new mattress - its getting easier to fall asleep and harder to wake up! My partner no longer wakes up with neck pain, and overall we're feeling much happier to spend time in our new bed

The overall experience with Dreams was good. I just needed to make a call to find out how to keep the Ottoman down as was informed over the phone and not when the item was delivered.

I had my bed base and mattress delivered just before Christmas. It was a breath of fresh air. It took a day or so to get used to a new bed, but I can honestly say I am sleeping so well and waking up feeling refreshed each morning. Thank you Dreams for helping me use the electronic bed to determine my sleep pattern and the best mattress for my body shape. Thank you.

This mattress has been a dream for me! It's very firm and doesn't lose it's shape when you've been in the bed for a couple hours like memory foam ones do. It comes with added bonus of being able to completely flip over which I hope means will last many years to come. The mattress itself is heavy and feels to be build of good quality. I have had amazing sleep on this ever since it was delivered. Even after my newborns arrival it's been no issue to fall back asleep quickly to get those precious hours in!! If you're looking for a very firm mattress, I cannot recommend this one more. What a bargain at clearance too.
