About the Dreams Workshop Richards Traditional Spring Memory Mattress

Last checked

Open-coil springs give the Dreams Workshop Richards its basic support, with memory foam and the recyclable Platinum 3D™ layer sitting above to soften the landing. The open-coil core sets the limits. Unlike pocket-sprung hybrids, where each spring can react separately to hips, shoulders and weight differences, this is a connected-spring build, so the support is more uniform and bouncy than profile-aware. For a traditional spring mattress, the memory-foam-plus-3D comfort package is more ambitious than a plain budget open-coil unit; the honest reading is that the comfort layers are doing most of the contouring while the spring unit supplies lift, airflow and bounce. The tufting also matters, because it compresses the upper fillings and helps hold the mattress together, but it can make a mattress feel firmer than soft-surface wording suggests. That lines up with the feedback: the medium expectation does not land consistently, with some finding it firmer than anticipated, while others settle into it after a couple of nights. The knitted cover and cushioned top are repeatedly described as more plush than basic, but the underlying construction remains closer to the traditional sprung class than the more isolating pocket-sprung or memory-foam hybrid tier.

People wanting a supportive, cushioned mattress with a bit of spring are the clearest fit, especially back sleepers and couples moving up from a tired older mattress. Back comfort is the strongest repeated praise point, with several high-scoring comments linking the support to better sleep and fewer aches, and the memory foam gives the surface enough cushioning for those who dislike the hard, flat feel of simpler open-coil mattresses. Edge support is the weak spot. A larger sleeper flagged the sides as too soft and easy to roll towards, which is a known trade-off with many connected-spring mattresses unless they have reinforced borders, and another complaint mentioned early dipping after only a few weeks. Rotation may also be more awkward than it needs to be, because the longer feedback notes the lack of side handles, a practical drawback on a tufted mattress that still needs regular turning from head to foot. Temperature-wise, the open-coil unit and 3D layer should allow more air movement than a dense all-foam slab, though anyone who sleeps very hot may still prefer a pocket-sprung mattress with thinner comfort foams or natural fillings. The Richards suits back sleepers and average-build couples who want cushioned support without losing bounce; those prioritising stronger edges, better motion control or long-term shape retention should look instead at the pocket-sprung hybrid tier.

Slept on this for a week and it feels nicely supportive without being rock hard. Only gripe is its a bit awkward to turn, but once youre lying down its comfy and I wake up less achey.

Fantastic mattress! This is my first time trying a combination mattress and I am very impressed. It feels super cushioned but also very supportive. The top cover has a luxury feel also. Since swapping to this mattress me and my partner have had a great nights sleep. Noticeable difference from my previous mattress.

Overall a good mattress, wife and I are happy to carry on sleeping on it, however it is a bit to soft on edges and easy to roll off, at least I found that with myself, but that is maybe, because I am quite big person.

A very comfortable mattress, offers a lot of support and I adore the pillow top. The only issue I do have with this mattress is there are no handles on the side to help with rotation, which makes the care process of the mattress a little tricky, but a very comfortable sleep

Overall a very good and comfortable mattress. Softer than I was expecting for a Firm mattress but not a major issue. Seems well made with no stitching or quality issues

At first I thought the mattress was a bit firm to be called medium mattress, but after only a couple of days after letting the mattress settle. I had a fantastic nights sleep and since then my back has felt great. I am now happy with it and its very comfortable.
