About the Dreams Workshop Billingham Traditional Spring Memory Mattress
Last checked
Aimed at sleepers who want a firmer traditional feel with some foam cushioning, the Dreams Workshop Billingham combines an open-spring core with a memory-foam comfort layer, a soft-touch damask cover and traditional tufting. This is a traditional mattress first. The hourglass spring unit should spread load across the surface, but it will not react as independently as a pocket-sprung build, so the support is more uniform and bouncier than a mattress using separate fabric-wrapped springs. An open-coil core with memory foam is an honest lower-price construction; compared with memory-foam hybrids or the £500-plus pocket-sprung tier, the value comes from adding pressure relief to a basic spring platform rather than from sophisticated zoning or partner isolation. The memory foam should soften the first contact and take some pressure off shoulders and hips, while the tufting keeps the fillings pinned down and gives the surface a more old-school, buttoned feel. That tufting is practical for durability, but it also makes the comfort less plush than the foam wording might suggest, because a tufted surface can feel firmer and more textured than a quilted pillowtop.
Firmness is the dividing line here. Praise tends to come from back sleepers, teenagers and guest-bed use, where the supportive feel, lighter handling and modest build are treated as strengths rather than compromises; several positive experiences describe better sleep, fewer aches and a firm surface that settles after a few nights. The specification backs that up only partly: memory foam adds contouring, but the connected spring unit means the mattress is better for people wanting a straightforward, lifted feel than for side sleepers needing deep shoulder cushioning. Criticism centres on the same firmness tipping into discomfort, with low-scoring feedback repeatedly describing the mattress as harder than expected and, in one more serious case, the springs becoming noticeable after only a few months. The hard tufting is another practical warning for side sleeping, because pressure can concentrate around the stitched indentations unless a topper is added. Temperature feedback is more favourable than expected for a foam-topped mattress, helped by the relatively thin comfort build and damask cover, though the “cooler night” claim should not be read like a specialist cooling-foam design. Couples with different weights may also feel more roll-together and movement than on pocket springs. If you're furnishing a teenager’s room, spare room or firmer back-sleeping set-up, this works. If you're a sensitive side sleeper or sharing nightly with a restless partner, a pocket-sprung or deeper hybrid mattress makes more sense.

Firm comfort support rating - feels solid and supportive
A firm comfort support rating indicates a mattress that provides a robust sleep surface, offering substantial support for the spine and pressure points. This level of firmness is particularly well-suited for individuals who prefer a stable and supportive sleeping area, often helpful for those with back pain or those who sleep on their stomach or back.
100 Night Comfort Guarantee - gives you peace of mind when you buy
A 100 Night Comfort Guarantee allows for a trial period where the product can be tested in your own home environment to see if it meets personal comfort standards. If it doesn't meet your expectations, it can be returned for a refund or exchange, offering flexibility and assurance in purchasing decisions.
Contouring memory foam - adapts to your unique body shape
The memory foam layer customizes its shape to match the body's contours, ensuring improved support and pressure relief during sleep. This feature enhances comfort by evenly distributing weight, potentially reducing pressure points and alleviating discomfort.
Traditional open springs - for even support across the mattress

Feels properly firm but still comfy once youve had a few nights on it, and it looks nice with the tufting. Only thing is it was a bit hard at first, but its been fine since.
Quality product with noticeable firm support. Great for back sleepers and the memory foam layer adds a comforting touch.
This mattress was very firm to start with, which made it uncomfortable as its a one sided mattress and can't be turned over but with use it has softened, the comfort layer is not noticeable at first due to the damask cover but again over a few days it has become softer on my hips and shoulders making it much more supportive. It is a little bouncy but as we only had a single it was fine.
This mattress is a FAR better version of the Braybrook ( which my sister bought for her son ) Better construction, better comfort......Just Better All Round! Will be great for anyone looking for a great value mattress , my teenage son loves the comfort of the memory foam and the firm ,supportive but contouring springs.
The mattress is of decent standard although from obviously the lower end of the price range. The mattress is fairly light so would be ideal for older customers or people a bit more physically challenged to be able to rotate or flip over than some of the other thicker heavier mattresses.
Billingham mattress is really comfortable its like sleeping on a cloud. Mattress is well made and looks very stylish on the bed.
The Billingham offers a firm level of support. The layer of memory foam adds a little softness to the mattress perfectly pressure relieving any aches and pains through the night.
This mattress far exceeded my expectations! Its incredibly comfortable bearing in mind the price of the mattress. Its an excellent addition to my spare room—I highly recommend it!
Nice and firm mattress with a memory foam filling traditional sprung very light weight easy to rotate. Thankyou Dreams
My son has been using this mattress. It's quite basic, bouncy and firm. He's 16 and just under 9 stone and used to a pocket spring / memory foam combi. I was expecting him to be more negative given the delta in spec however he was surprisingly positive and as a result spends even more time in bed.
Bought for my son and he finds it very comfortable plus it was an excellent price.
Super comfortable and firm, does wonders for the back.
Super comfortable mattress! I was looking for something firm for my back, and this mattress provides really great support. The delivery service was also really great. The team were super friendly and informed me on the steps I needed to take before being able to use the mattress.
Excellent customer service in store and best price by a country mile compared to competitors in surrounding area. Felt like we really got a steal!
Good quality mattress, great delivery service. Happy with purchase
Lovely and comfortable. Perfect for someone who likes a firm mattress.
Very good quality for this price. Mattress is great!
Really comfortable Mattress and Bed Frame easy to assemble
Decent but could benefit from a thicker layer of memory foam.
Great mattress for my teenage son, firm but not too firm.
