Good quality sleep is a non-negotiable for a healthy, happy life, and there's one aspect we should pay close heed to – the foundation of our slumber, the humble mattress. Recently, I've had the pleasure (and pain, but I'll get to that) of testing out a mattress from Bensons for Beds. Called the Sandown Ortho Comfort Mattress, it promised the cerulean skies of a restful night of sleep. My interaction with the product was limited to an in-store experience, but it still gave me a wholesome understanding of its many facets (and foibles).

Mattress Construction and Unique Features

The first thing I took note of with the Sandown Ortho Comfort Mattress was its robust construction. The centrepiece of this design is the 1000 individual pocket springs promising to adapt to body movement for premium responsive support. For those sharing their bed (and those pesky midnight wrestling matches), this could potentially mean undisturbed sleep – a definite plus. The mattress also flaunts a hypoallergenic comfort layer, breathable and made from 42% recycled materials, a commendable nod towards eco-friendliness.

The damask cover is an excellent addition. Not only is it soft and durable, the breathability it offers keeps moisture and heat at bay, contributing to a fresh, dry sleep environment. But here's where I arched an eyebrow: the mattress is double-sided. While it's supposed to add durability, I find that the added chore of rotating and flipping the mattress could be a dealbreaker for some, myself included.
