About the Ashford Memory Mattress
Last checked
Shoppers drawn to the Ashford Memory Mattress are being offered a comfort-led Bensons for Beds model, not a resistance-heavy orthopaedic mattress. Its declared tension is soft, 1 of 5, which puts it at the most yielding end of the usual retail scale and makes the memory feel central rather than incidental. Soft memory foam is about contact-area relief: shoulders and hips sink in before the surface pushes back, so the body feels cradled rather than perched on top. That is a clear construction choice. Compared with open-coil mattresses or firmer pocket-sprung builds, this kind of specification sacrifices some immediate lift and edge authority in return for pressure relief and a slower, more enveloping surface. The call is straightforward: a bottom-scale soft rating is not a general-purpose support claim; it is a deliberate side-sleeper and lighter-body-weight proposition, especially for people whose hip and shoulder shape needs extra give before the support layer takes load. For hourglass figures, that extra sink can help keep the waist from being forced into a gap, though anyone expecting the taut feel of a firm hybrid will find the Ashford operating in a different comfort class.
Side sleeping is where the spec and the feedback line up most convincingly: comfort praise centres on the cushioned feel, with several buyers describing better sleep and enough support despite the soft surface. A lighter adult, a teenager, or someone who has found basic foam mattresses too hard is the most obvious match, because the mattress can compress enough to relieve pressure without asking much body weight to activate it. The pain feedback is mixed. One lower-rated experience says the soft feel contributed to prolonged back pain, while another says the mattress felt firmer and slightly smaller than expected; that contradicts any simple reading of the soft label and means the tension should not be treated as automatically back-friendly. There is also a positive contradiction in the sample: one buyer moved away from a firm mattress used for back ache and found the Ashford reduced discomfort, so personal shape and sleeping position appear to matter more than the label alone. Couples with a large weight difference may find the softer memory feel less balanced, because the heavier partner will sit deeper while the lighter partner may experience more contour than bounce; for heat-sensitive sleepers, memory foam usually feels more hugging than airy pocket-sprung construction. This is best for lighter side sleepers seeking cushioning. It is one to skip for sleepers needing firmer lumbar control - a medium-firm pocket-sprung or hybrid tier is the better fit.

Specifications
Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.
Dynamic reinforced edge support- for added durability, reduces roll-off, and optimises the sleep surface all the way to the edge of the mattress;
Strengthened sides hold the mattress perimeter firmer when you sit or lie near it, giving you more usable width and less sense of sliding off. Softer top layers may compress before the firmer perimeter resists.
Deep open coil mattress springs– for even weight distribution, added durability, comfort and support
Linked coils move together under your body, spreading load across the mattress and making dips less sudden when you change position. Movement can travel, though, and may bother light-sleeping bed sharers.
Pro-bio treated fabric– a natural treatment in the fabric, to reduce harmful bacteria and help prevent the effects of dust mite allergens
Treated cover discourages bacterial build-up and dust mite allergen residues, leaving the surface less musty between sheet changes. People with severe allergies should use a full washable encasement.
Comfort choice– Soft (Also available in Medium as the Ashford Memory Support)
Deeper cushioning lets heavier contact points sink further, reducing pressure for side sleepers and anyone who likes a gentler surface. Front sleepers may prefer a firmer build for steadier support.
Made in the UK in a British Kitemark™ Quality Accredited factory- Recognised as a symbol of quality, safety and trust for more than 100 Years
Workshop checks can catch mislabelled covers or uneven filling before dispatch, reducing the chance of a basic build fault reaching your bedroom. It doesn't prove the feel will suit your body.
Free 5-year guarantee– for peace of mind
Manufacturer cover runs for 5 years at no extra charge, putting a written route in place if a qualifying fault appears after delivery. Wear, stains and comfort changes usually sit outside it.
Memory foam– for responsive, pressure relieving comfort and support
Foam softens under body heat and spreads weight around shoulders and hips, easing sharper contact points as you settle into one position. Hot sleepers may prefer a more open spring feel.
Quilted sleep surface- featuring hypoallergenic and breathable layer to help you sleep fresh, and 42% recycled.
Stitched padding creates a cushioned top panel, while the low-irritant layer lets moisture vapour move away from your sheet. Deep stitching can trap warmth unless bedding is kept light.
"I’m Green™ packaging- made from a minimum of 50% sugar cane and 30% recycled plastics"
Delivery wrap relies less on new fossil plastic, giving you less virgin plastic to deal with once everything is unpacked. Recycling depends on your local council's plastic film rules.
Soft-touch, stretch knit cover– works in harmony with the springs and fillings to contour to each sleeper's body shape
Fabric that flexes over the top lets the surface follow shoulders and hips, leaving fewer tight spots as you change position. Sharp jewellery or rough washing can snag it.
Mattress height- 22cm
Lower profile sides sit closer to the slats, leaving more headboard visible and easing the climb into bed. Deep fitted sheets may sit loose around the corners.

Beautiful matress and really comfy and well supported would defo buy again
I am very pleased that I have found at last a mattress that is comfortable. After many years of coping with various upper body aches and pains and buying foam mattresses which are too hard or too soft I now enjoy a good nights sleep with the 90cm Ashford memory which is perfect for me and is easy to turn 180 degrees for regular maintenance. Highly reccomended. John, West tytherley, Nr Salisbury.
