About the Sophie Conran Solace Pocket Wool Mattress

Last checked

The balance here is between responsive spring support and natural-fill comfort rather than a foam-led hug. The Sophie Conran Solace Pocket Wool Mattress is medium-firm, 4 out of 5, with individually wrapped pocket springs, micro springs, British wool, breathable cotton and traditional hand tufting on both sleeping faces. Honest traditional construction, not a foam hybrid. The spec’s “targeted support” needs translating into practical terms: pocket and micro springs compress more locally than an open-coil mattress, so the surface can respond under shoulders, hips and lower back, but this is still uniform spring support rather than a named zoned system. The wool-and-cotton comfort stack is the value call here; it is conservative compared with the deeper foam, latex or pillow-top builds seen in some higher pocket-sprung tiers, yet more appealing for sleepers who dislike the heat and slow sink of memory foam. The double-sided design is the standout structural feature. It adds the chore of seasonal flipping, but it is also a more durable, old-school way of spreading wear than a one-sided mattress that relies on rotation alone.

Pocket springs with micro springs make most sense for average-weight back sleepers and side/back combination sleepers who want support that gives a little rather than a soft mattress that lets the hips drop. Praise tends to centre on better sleep quality, less morning stiffness and a cradled feel that still stays supportive, which matches the medium-firm spring-and-wool build rather than contradicting it. Temperature feedback is also positive: the wool and cotton are widely described as cool and breathable, so this is a stronger fit for warmer sleepers than many memory-foam hybrids at the same general comfort level. Firmness is the main caveat. The firmer feel can take a couple of nights to settle into, and curvier side sleepers who need deeper shoulder and hip sink may find the supportive surface less forgiving than the “cradling” language suggests. Couples should get better movement separation than with open-coil mattresses because of the independent spring action, although the spec gives no reason to expect specialist edge support for sitting or sleeping right on the perimeter. If the sleeper is an average-weight back or mixed side/back sleeper wanting natural fibres and a held medium-firm feel, this works. If the sleeper is a curvier side sleeper chasing deeper pressure relief, a softer pocket-sprung or pillow-top tier makes more sense.

Picked this SC Solace pocket wool mattress up and its nicely supportive without feeling like youre sleeping on a plank, plus it stays pleasantly cool through the night. It took a couple of nights to get used to the firmer feel, but Im waking up less stiff so I cant grumble too much.

This mattress is super comfortable we previously had a memory foam role mattress which gave back pain and was super uncomfortable. A few nights on this new mattress sleep has been amazing it is soft as you lie but it gives the support needed. Love it and getting a good nights sleep

Honestly wasn't sure what to expect but the Solace has completely won me over. It's got this way of just wrapping around you when you lie down — you end up feeling properly cradled rather than just lying on top of something. It just hugs you in all the right places and everything else switches off. I'm not sleeping any longer than I used to but I'm waking up feeling like I've actually properly rested for once. Worth every penny.

Am still within the 100 day period to see if I am happy but so far so so so GOOD ! Have turned it every 7 days and am delighted with the feel of the mattress - total comfort. Would be very surprised if after another month my opinions will change but I think if they do it will only be to heap more praise on the product. Well done Dreams and thank you Sophie Conran.
