About the Slumberland Divan Low Base On Glides
Last checked
A low divan base on glides puts the construction emphasis on access height, floor clearance and a compact footprint, rather than on exposed timber styling or under-bed void. The brief is access before drama. Compared with a standard-height slatted bedstead, the useful point is not spring response or decorative framing, but the way the base keeps the finished bed height down once a deep modern mattress is added; that is an honest, practical trade for older sleepers, shorter adults or anyone who finds a tall mattress stack awkward. The glides also signal a different intention from castors: they should keep the base more planted on the floor, but they are not a promise of effortless daily repositioning. Storage appears in the two-drawer version described repeatedly in owner accounts, which is a sensible middle ground for spare bedding and towels rather than the full-capacity answer offered by four-drawer divans or ottoman bases. A two-drawer low divan is therefore on-tier and pragmatic, not lavish; it gives easier entry and some storage while avoiding the shin-banging rails, corners and footboards that make wooden bedsteads awkward in tight rooms.
The low base height drives the strongest suitability signal here, with repeated accounts from shorter, older and disabled sleepers saying the bed is easier to get into and out of, including one purchase for a 90-year-old and another from someone managing chronic arthritis. Those comments line up neatly with the construction: lowering the base compensates for today’s thicker mattresses, so the finished bed can feel closer to a normal sitting height rather than a climb. Drawer action is the weak spot. Lower-rated reviews repeatedly flag drawers that catch, resist pulling out or fail to close cleanly because of internal finishing, and one longer account found the glides too reluctant when the bed needed moving; the product name promises glides, but lived use suggests stability takes priority over manoeuvrability. The positive reviews still describe the base as sturdy, smart-looking and useful in smaller bedrooms, especially where the two drawers replace separate storage and the lack of protruding side rails reduces knocks around a narrow walkway. If the priority is a lower, steadier divan for easier access in a compact room, this works. If easy-running drawers, frequent bed movement or maximum storage capacity matter more, a higher-spec drawer divan or ottoman base makes more sense.

Great base especially with 2 draws and just the right height.
Really comfortable and excellent quality
My 90 year old mum is very pleased with her new bed
The is the perfect height size for myself. Extremely comfy and I love it. I would recommend this particular bed to anyone who has difficulty in getting into and out of bed.
Very comfy
Very pleased with Slumberland base. Well made and just the height we needed with our very thick mattress. Benson's service was extremely good from ordering through to delivery. Very good value.
This is the second purchase I've made in the last 6 months & the experience has been as excellent as the first. Once again very good help & advice from Judy in the Norwich branch.
Smart looking base, at a better height for me than a standard one. I would recommend a low base for us older folk, and / or shorter folk. Modern mattresses are so big that a lower base just makes for a normal height bed. It's sturdy and stable, and the two drawers are wide enough to hold spare bedding and towels. Matching headboard is nice and stable.
Love the low base on the bed don't struggle to get in to bed any more
Just sorry I have to add bedding to hide the beautiful, comfortable mattress. Very pleased with bed, ink blue low base, gliders, price and delivery. Oh, nearly forgot useful drawers.
We are pleased with this product, nice and low as I am disabled
We are very satisfied.
I wanted a low divan base and this is very comfortable so far. I like the drawers too, very useful and well made.
Great bed. One of the feet has already broken though.
Love the low divan base. Perfect for short legged people.
The option of a low divan was crucial for older people. They report the natress is very comfortable and the drawers useful. The material covered base looks good , such that a valance is no longer needed.
What to say... it's a divan base that either supports the mattress or doesn't. However it was good to find a low base, for use with the increasing deep mattresses, that was smart, easy to assemble and at a good price point.
I love my Slumberland single base bed. The quality is excellent and the bonus is there are two deep drawers on one side for extra storage. I had a wooden bed frame before this divan and only having a small space to move round my bed I'm still covered in bruises on my legs and toes! Paired with a 'mattress in a box' the whole sleep experience is now perfect! Just to add, I'm disabled and suffer with chronic arthritis.
Excellent quality looks great very comfy quick delivery
Lovely base and very handy for storage lovely material on the base
