About the Silentnight SleepResponse™ Reflex 1600 Combination Mattress
Last checked
When the brief is cushioned side-sleeping rather than board-stiff support, the Silentnight SleepResponse™ Reflex 1600 Combination Mattress makes most sense as a soft-medium, 2 of 5 mattress built around pressure relief. This is comfort-led, not orthopaedic. Its main support is Silentnight’s 1,600 Mirapocket spring unit, paired with a flexible gel comfort layer and a CoolEase cover intended to move heat away from the surface. A 1,600 pocket count is a respectable middle-ground spec against basic open-coil mattresses: more adaptive under the hips and shoulders than a linked-spring unit, but still below the more elaborate £700+ pocket-sprung tier where higher spring counts, deeper natural fillings or multi-layer hybrid builds usually do more of the load management. The gel layer is the notable comfort choice here. It gives the mattress a cooler, more responsive surface than traditional memory foam, at least in principle, while avoiding the slow, enveloping feel that can make some foam hybrids awkward for fidgety sleepers. The practical trade-off is that a soft-medium spring-and-gel build relies on the comfort layer allowing sink before the pocket unit firms up underneath, so it is more about contour and shoulder cushioning than holding a heavier body flat and high on the mattress.
The gel layer and CoolEase cover are the strongest fit clues. Lower-BMI side sleepers and hourglass body shapes are the clearest match, because the soft-medium tension gives shoulders and hips room to settle rather than forcing them against a firmer surface. Comfort praise repeats across the feedback: sleep quality improves, the surface is described as comfortable and cool, and one repeated positive theme is that the mattress does not feel as heat-retentive as standard memory foam, which lines up with the gel-and-cooling-cover specification. The soft-medium label is not the whole story, though, because the weakest feedback splits between feeling too hard for one person and too soft or unsupportive for others, with early dipping and shape loss appearing more than once. Odour is the other serious flag, with more than one detailed complaint describing a strong lingering smell after airing, including headaches in one case, so the cooling materials may work for temperature without guaranteeing a neutral bedroom smell from day one. Couples get a better starting point than on open-coil mattresses because individual pocket springs tend to isolate movement more cleanly, but the softer surface will not be the most stable option for a heavier partner or someone who sleeps mainly on their front. For lower-BMI side sleepers and curvier bodies wanting cooler cushioning, this is the right call. For heavier back or front sleepers, look at firmer pocket-sprung mattresses or higher-density memory-foam hybrids instead.

Been sleeping much cooler and its got a nice soft feel without swallowing me up, and Im not waking when my partner shifts about. Only gripe is it turned up later than promised, but once it arrived Ive been quite chuffed with it.
Feels nicely supportive without being rock hard, stays fairly cool at night, and its been a solid upgrade for everyday sleep.
The mattress is very comfortable. I have slept so much better than I have for a very long time. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
Bed & the mattress are very high quality and worth the price. Totally satisfied with overall service
A revelation! So comfortable. Should have changed our mattress years ago. My wife's back issues have all but disappeared.
I dont normally review anything however I highly rate this mattress. I recently bought the double version and had to update my king as I am so impressed by it. 10/10 super comfortable.
Brilliant service. Brilliant product. Brilliant sleep. What else could you want Thankyou
Delivered on time and assembled. Followed up by review of satisfaction. Highly satisfied.
After using the Sleepmatch system, this was one of the recommended mattresses for me to choose from. This one was by far the clear winner for comfort.
Superb. This is the most comfortable mattress that we have aver slept on. An excellent combination of firmness and support.
We have been sleeping far longer on our new mattress. It is so much more comfortable.
We are very pleased with the mattress. My wife is finally waking up without backache in the morning.
Always a difficult decision but proved to be an excellent choice. Comfortable for both of us (unusual to find!). Good service in store and from delivery team.
Mattress is very comfortable however after 3 weeks it still has a bad odour. For the first week it was that strong I had a bad headache every morning. It wasnt until I slept somewhere else and my headache went we realised why. We did air it for 12 hours before putting sheets on. I may look at a different mattress next time I need one.
Very comfortable mattress, the correct balance of firmness and support but also comfort
Absolutely love it confortability was all what was advised
We bought this a few months ago and it's gorgeous. This is our second silent night mattress. We've done the required turns but I'm sad to say it's already showing signs of dipping. We aren't particularly heavy. So it's sad that it looks like we're getting divots already after only 6weeks or so of owning it.
Good mattress would have liked one a little softer.otherwise fine .
Comfortable but a little bit firmer than I thought it would be.
