About the Silentnight SleepResponse™ Breatheasy 1400 Pocket Sprung Mattress
Last checked
Back sleepers wanting a properly firm Silentnight are the clearest audience here: the SleepResponse™ Breatheasy 1400 is a pocket-sprung mattress with a firm, 5 of 5 comfort grade, built around 1,400 Mirapocket® springs rather than a deep foam comfort stack. That spring count is respectable in the mainstream pocket-sprung tier, but it is not a luxury spec by itself; the firmness and spring unit are doing most of the support work, rather than latex, mini-springs or a thick pressure-relieving pillowtop. Honest support, not plush indulgence. The aloe vera-infused quilted surface and breathable fibre package are aimed at a fresher feel, while the Breatheasy pitch leans on airflow through the comfort materials and border rather than the slow, enveloping feel associated with memory-foam hybrids. In practical terms, that points to a flatter, more responsive sleep surface with less shoulder-and-hip sink than softer hybrids, and the orthopaedic language should be read as firm tension for straighter alignment rather than a highly tailored clinical support system. The single-sided format also keeps ownership simple, with rotation rather than flipping, which suits a modern build but puts more pressure on using the mattress evenly over time.
The relationship between the firm spring unit and the relatively lean comfort layer makes this strongest for back sleeping, especially where lower-back support is the main reason for replacing an older, softer mattress. Sleep quality improves for some, with reduced morning back stiffness and a cooler feel than older foam beds coming through as repeated praise points; the spec connection is clear enough, because pocket springs and breathable fibres trap less heat than dense memory foam. Heat feedback is more mixed than the Breatheasy name suggests, though: the mattress is widely described as better than hot foam, but still warm rather than genuinely cold, with some needing to move to a cooler patch during the night. The other recurring warning is firmness. Even people who actively like firm mattresses describe this as extremely firm with very little give, so side sleepers, lighter bodies and hourglass shapes may find the hip and shoulder loading too severe for relaxed alignment. Couples who dislike being swallowed by foam may appreciate the responsive feel, and one comment notes some bounce, but this is not the obvious route for maximum cushioning or a soft, settled cradle. For dedicated back sleepers and some front sleepers who want a cooler-feeling, very firm pocket-sprung mattress, this is the right call. For side sleepers wanting pressure relief, look at a softer pocket-sprung hybrid tier instead.

Really firm and supportive with a nice cool feel at night, and it arrived later than expected but the quality seems solid.
Nice and firm with a bit of bounce, and Ive been waking up with less of that creaky lower-back feeling. It also sleeps cooler than my old one, though if youre after a soft, sink-in cuddle this wont be it.
This Sleep Response™ Breatheasy 1400 Mattress combines comfort, support, and sustainability with a soft aloe vera-infused quilted cover and 1,400 Mirapocket® springs for zoned spinal alignment and reduced motion transfer. Breathable fibres and a mesh border enhance airflow for a cooler, fresher sleep. Its single-sided design requires only rotation, and recycled materials make it an eco-conscious choice—backed by a 5-year guarantee.
I am both a 'hot sleeper' who has the problem of heat build up in the mattress comfort layers, and also someone who prefers a very firm mattress as good for back support. The BE1400 therefore seemed ideal. After trialling for 30 days a mixed outcome. The mattress generally good at preventing overheating, much better than many I've tried (including very hot memory foam, and supposedly cooling wool/natural ones that also got very hot in my experience). However, still some heat build up in the comfort layers and I'd describe as a warm mattress rather than cool one. I was waking 2-3 times a week and having to shift position to a cooler part of the mattress, but still much better than the foam or wool mattresses. Main surprise though was that the mattress was exceedingly firm, with almost no give at all. I like a firm mattress but even so would have liked a little more and the mattress maybe better for heavier sleepers (I'm 84 kg) - but did mean no back pain and slept very well in that respect. In the end after the trial though I swapped to the almost identical BE1000 version, which is a little less firm. Also one other observation, the aloe vera infusion was very subtle and not noticeable once sheets on, but nice to have.
We recently bought a new mattress and all the staff were so helpful. We never felt any pressure and they were very knowledgeable about their products which helped us narrow down the many options. We are very happy with our purchase
