About the Silentnight Healthy Growth Eco Bunk Mattress
Last checked
For bunk beds and shallow cabin frames, the key relationship is between mattress depth and the height of the guard rail. The Silentnight Healthy Growth Eco Bunk Mattress is 14cm deep, so it is deliberately slim enough for top-bunk use where a thicker mattress could reduce the effective safety barrier. The safety point is the 14cm depth. A 14cm bunk mattress is a strict, safety-led profile rather than a comfort-led one; compared with standard children’s mattresses that often gain depth through foam, pocket springs or pillowtop padding, this build prioritises rail clearance, low weight and easy handling. Inside, it uses traditional open-coil springs with Eco Comfort Fibre fillings made from recycled plastic, finished with a knitted cover and hypoallergenic treatment. Open coil is honest for this type of children’s mattress: it gives broad, uniform support, but it is not the same proposition as a pocket-sprung kids’ mattress where springs move more independently. The firm feel, single-sided construction and 12kg single weight make it practical for bunk beds, spare rooms and occasional sleepover use, with rotation rather than flipping as the maintenance routine. The five-year guarantee, UK manufacture, National Bed Federation approval and BS7177:2008 domestic fire-resistance compliance add reassurance around basic build and safety credentials.
The firm open-coil construction suits children who need a supportive, shallow mattress for a bunk, cabin bed or guest setup, and the strongest owner feedback matches that spec: families repeatedly describe a good fit in bunks, a supportive feel, easy lifting and children sleeping comfortably on it. The fit feedback is unusually consistent. Several buyers also pick up on value, the fresh new smell rather than chemical odour, and the fact that the sides feel more supportive than an older or cheaper children’s mattress, which makes sense given the spring unit rather than a pure foam slab. UK bunk-bed guidance still matters here: the slim profile helps with guard-rail clearance, but top bunks are for children aged six and over under BS EN 747 guidance, while younger children are better kept to the lower bunk or a cabin bed. The weaker feedback is tied to the same 14cm profile. A recurring complaint from unhappy owners is that it can feel thin or lower quality than expected, with some describing unevenness developing, so the manufacturer’s talk of solid support should be read as child-weight, shallow-bunk support rather than a thick, long-haul mattress feel. It is a sensible buy for bunk beds, sleepover rooms and younger children who need a firm, lightweight, safety-depth mattress; for heavier older children, nightly long-term use, or anyone expecting a plusher feel, a deeper pocket-sprung children’s mattress or higher-tier kids’ mattress is the better category to consider.

Specifications
Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.
Knitted cover
A knitted cover spells out a blend of cosiness with breathability, providing a comforting touch that many crave while ensuring your temperature remains well regulated throughout the night. This feature pairs comfort and functionality in a coveted balance, contributing to an intimate sleep environment that is warm, inviting, yet refreshingly aerated.
Traditional open coil springs
Traditional open coil springs create a firm bedtime experience, transferring motion across the surface, a factor that might be undesirable for sleepers sensitive to disturbances. On the other hand, these systems are generally more cost-effective, making them a sensible choice for those seeking to marry budget considerations with performance.
Fire Resistant
Ensuring safety during your peaceful slumber, fire resistance is a crucial feature that reduces the risk posed by potential accidents involving flammable materials. Furthermore, it demonstrates the manufacturer's commitment to adhere to strict safety standards, prioritizing your well-being over all else.
3 year guarantee
A three-year guarantee delivers substantial peace of mind, indicating that the product is designed and constructed to last. In the unlikely event of manufacturing defects within this period, you have the assurance of support and possible replacement, reducing long-term costs and potential inconvenience.
National Bed Federation Approved Brand
Receiving approval from the National Bed Federation indicates that the product meets specific industry standards and quality benchmarks. This approval serves as a reassurance of the product's reliability and durability, though discerning buyers may still want to consider personal comfort preferences.
Eco Comfort Fibre
Encompassing sustainable and recyclable materials, Eco Comfort Fibre contributes to a greener environment while offering substantial comfort. This technology, simultaneously breathable and resilient, aids in maintaining an ideal sleep temperature and delivers an uninterrupted, restful night.
Chemical treatment-free
Opting for a mattress unmarred by chemical treatments essentially heightens your exposure to a more organic, safer sleeping environment. This invariably furthers your health prospects by diminishing potential toxic threats, directly contributing to a wholesome, restorative slumber.
Firm
Firmness in a mattress indicates robust support for your spine, reducing the risk of back pain and contributing favourably to your posture. Still, it might not be suitable for those who prefer a softer surface or side sleepers, who could find such solidity uncomfortable.
Approved by the National Bed Federation
Factory auditing checks that the mattress is made under UK rules for flammability, fillings and labelling, giving you a clearer paper trail for what arrives at home. It doesn't prove comfort, firmness or long-term durability.
5 year guarantee
Fault cover puts manufacturing problems in writing, making a loose strut, failed fixing or collapsed padding less of a gamble after delivery. Accidental damage, fabric marks and poor fitting usually sit outside it.
Hypoallergenic
Hypoallergenic mattresses are the perfect choice for those with allergies or sensitivities, as they protect against allergens and irritants. They're also a great choice for those with asthma or respiratory issues.
14cm deep
Low height leaves more safety rail visible on raised bed frames. Taller children or anyone wanting a plusher mattress may prefer a thicker option, since slim mattresses can bottom out sooner on firm slats.
Handcrafted in the UK
Factory workers assemble and finish the mattress by hand, leaving small variations in stitching or edge detail you may notice up close. It doesn't prove better support or longer life.
Single-sided
Bed-making is simpler because the comfort layers stay on the top face, leaving the underside to stabilise the mattress while you lie on the cushioned surface. Don't flip it over.

Very good value
The mattresses looks good, are supportive and fit the bunk beds perfectly. The mattresses do not have a horrible smell but smell nice and fresh and new. My three year old and six year old grandsons enjoy their sleepovers and sleep soundly. Overall a very good product. Customer Service from Mattress on line was excellent with a quick delivery in time for Christmas.
I was very worried that such a thin mattress would be a huge compromise on comfort, however this was much better than I thought it would be.
Fits well on a bunk bed Looks good Had good support. But it is early days
My daughter loves her new mattress. It fits our bunk bed perfectly. Free hippo toy was a bonus!
Very comfortable.
It was very difficult to find a mattress that fitted the requirements of a cabin bed but this one does and also has good support. Often the ones for cabin beds are just foam.
