  • Comfort 5.0/5 Show evidence for Comfort

Comfort scored 5.0/5 from 201 verified reviews: 74 positive mentions and 6 negative mentions (net signal +33.83%).

    • “Most comfortable mattress we've ever had. The reason we got it was due to a sore back and there has been a definite improvement. Thank you Bensons”
    • “Very comfortable but good support for your back. You sink into the mattress and it moulds around your body, expensive but worth it”
    • “The bed is extremely comfortable but the chemical smell from the gel topper isn't good. Had mine for 4 weeks now and it isn't getting any less. It smells of damp clothes even after it had been aired for over 24 hours”
  • Pressure relief 5.0/5 Show evidence for Pressure relief

Pressure relief scored 5.0/5 from memory foam construction (editor-vetted for pain suitability). Reviewer commentary specific to pressure relief was limited (5 relevant mentions across 201 reviews) so the score relies on construction type.

    • “Absolutely brilliant mattress. Love it, wake up refreshed and with no aches or pains. We have 2 large dogs that sleep on the bed as well and we all fit on the bed brilliantly.”
    • “I tried so many mattresses when I visited, all kind of the same and didn't know what to do. I saw the display for the Igel and laid on the NT 5000i in firm. I knew there and then it was the mattress for me. It's just amazing, we have had it just 1 week now and it's the most comfortable mattress I ”

Motion isolation scored 4.5/5 from pocket spring construction. Reviewer commentary specific to motion isolation was limited (1 relevant mentions across 201 reviews) so the score relies on construction type.

    • “Mattress Quality is not as good as previous mattress we purchased 7 years ago. I Gel function is not as good, temperature control not like the previous mattress. Not as comfortable and can feel partner when he gets into bed and turns over. Didn't have that with previous mattress. Have tired to comp”
  • Heat retention 4.5/5 Show evidence for Heat retention

Heat retention scored 4.5/5 from gel-infused cool-tech pocket spring construction. Reviewer commentary specific to heat retention was limited (6 relevant mentions across 201 reviews) so the score relies on construction type.

    • “Sadly the mattress is incredibly hot to sleep on. It does the opposite of cooling. It is comfortable to lie on briefly, but my partner and I quickly overheat during the night which has disrupted our sleep dramatically.”
    • “We love our new mattress! It's so comfortable - it supports your back well. Would definitely recommend. We had to wait for three weeks for delivery and then they brought the wrong mattress which was annoying so we then had a further two week delay. We also ordered the Igel mattress protector”
    • “Very comfortable ,soft yet firm. Only thing we find is that it doesn't really cool you down as stated. Had to swap duvet from 10.5 tog to 4.5 tog to cool down (still too warm need 2.5 tog). Nice and thick at 38cm .”

About the iGel NanoTech 5000i Plushtop Mattress

Last checked

The iGel NanoTech 5000i Plushtop Mattress is a comfort-led design: the hard buying signal is its medium, 3 of 5 feel, sitting beneath a plushtop iGel surface rather than presenting as a flat, taut sleep panel. That is plush specification, not orthopaedic specification. A plushtop changes the first contact point: shoulders, hips and ribs meet a cushioned upper layer before the support structure below fully engages, so the feel can be pressure-relieving without giving the lifted, braced sensation associated with firmer pocket-sprung or orthopaedic mattresses. For a mattress bought by at least one account at around £1,700, the call is clear: the proposition sits in the premium comfort tier, with the money being asked for depth, surface softness and the gel-led temperature story rather than a stark, high-tension support feel. The practical consequence is that the medium rating may feel gentler than the label suggests, especially once the plushtop has eased in. Several detailed accounts describe a thick, substantial mattress that can feel a touch firmer at first, then soften over the opening days or weeks; that behaviour matches the build language, because cushioned pillow-top surfaces often settle into their comfort character faster than flatter mattress panels.

Side-sleeping with sore hips, shoulders or pressure points is the clearest fit, and the happier accounts repeatedly connect the cushioned top with easier nights and less morning discomfort. Average-weight side sleepers are the safest match. Back sleepers of similar build may still get enough support, but the medium plushtop feel gives less of the locked-in lumbar hold that firmer pocket-sprung mattresses provide, and one low-scoring 88kg account is a useful warning that extra load can push the surface into a hollow rather than evenly absorbing weight. Couples are where the feedback becomes more divided: comfortable nights and good back support appear often, but low-scoring accounts repeatedly flag sinking together, a rolling-off sensation and weak edge confidence, with one detailed account describing a side wall dropping by roughly 2 inches after a year. Temperature feedback is more favourable, with one substantial account saying the bed felt easier to get into without an electric blanket, which fits the gel-positioned comfort layer; the drawback is aroma, as multiple accounts describe a new-mattress smell lingering for weeks. The iGel NanoTech 5000i Plushtop suits side sleepers wanting a cushioned, pressure-relieving medium feel; those prioritising firmer spinal hold, stronger edges or minimal partner roll-together should look instead at firmer pocket-sprung hybrids or latex-hybrid mattresses in the premium tier.

Very comfortable but good support for your back. You sink into the mattress and it moulds around your body, expensive but worth it

We absolutely love our new mattress. It has taken a few weeks for the aroma to disappear. It's comfortable and supportive.

The bed lovely. Not as cooling as we were led to believe in the shop.

Very comfortable but the cooling feature of the mattress seems to be compromised by the use of the iGel matress protector leading to the mattress being quite warm even though the duvet is use is only 4.5 TOG rated.Otherwise a great purchase, not slept so well for a very long time

It's very comfortable. I don't think it helps with temperature control though. It is incredibly heavy and turning it has been a chore. Check you can move it before purchasing.

Just like sleeping in a 5* hotel bed every night. Go straight online to buy though as you get a great deal and the in store staff don't seem interested in customers.

Really nice comfortable bed. Just hope it lasts as long as the last one.

This mattress is an absolute game changer. My partner and I have always struggled to find a mattress that truly works for both of us, and after trialling (and failing with) several top brands, this one stands miles above the rest. It delivers the most comfortable, supportive, and pain-free night's sleep we've ever had - for both of us - which honestly says everything. We wake up rested, comfortable, and wondering how we ever slept on anything else. Warning: You may never want to get out of bed!

We can honestly say that we had no problems in store. The under manager looked after us and was very informative about any questions we threw at him. After we purchased our bed we were kept informed about our delivery regularly plus we were informed before delivery date with time slot usually 2 hour and then a call from the driver on the day and about half an hour before he would arrive. Very polite and very quick. We received our bed about 3 weeks ago and can say it is very comfortable even being a firm mattress no issues at all. Good nights sleep…

Excellent mattress, has been worth every penny. This is the first time we have bought a high end mattress and I wish we had done it earlier.

The best mattress I've ever slept on! Comfy, thick, excellent quality, and incredible for my back. I sleep on my side and front, and it's amazing all round. The only issue I have is that I don't want to get up in the morning!

Honestly it didn't start well for me, whilst my wife took to the mattress instantly, I had a couple of difficult nights. I just couldn't get comfortable on it. To such an extent I was going to go back to Benson's and talk to them about my options, but then suddenly it all clicked into place from about night for and I've never looked back since. It's said it can take a month to get used to a new mattress and I'm so glad I persevered. I now find it super comfortable and the igel seems to be doing exactly what it's supposed to

I cannot believe how much better I am sleeping now with this mattress, I used to wake several times throughout the night but now I sleep through every night. Amazing comfort and would definitely recommend

Fantastic Matress. Originally purchased the 4000 igel in medium, when we got it home it was very firm. We changed to the 5000 medium with the money back guarantee. After lots of trying beds and deciding we chose the medium in 500 igel. Wow it's so comfortable. It feels just like the 4000 medium was in the shop. The staff in the shop were super helpful. Thanks so much
