About the TheraPur ActiGel® Tundra 5000 Combination Mattress
Last checked
Cooling is the organising idea here, with support built around it rather than treated as a cover-only extra. The TheraPur ActiGel® Tundra 5000 is a combination mattress, pairing a spring-based support system with 5cm of zoned ActiGel® foam and a graphite-infused ActiCool®+ cover, so its feel should sit closer to a responsive cooling hybrid than a slow-sinking memory-foam mattress. It is sold with a firm comfort grade. That is important because the gel layer is not being used to create a plush, enveloping surface; it is there to add pressure relief over the back and hips while keeping the top of the mattress comparatively buoyant. A 5cm gel layer is a proper comfort layer, not just a token cooling laminate, and that is more generous than the thin gel treatments often found on cheaper memory-foam hybrids. The spring element should do the heavier lifting under load, while the micro-spring-style comfort described in buyer feedback points to a surface that reacts quickly rather than holding the body in a foam cradle. The graphite cover is the more unusual part of the build: cooling covers can be mostly a cool-to-touch finish, but this one is also pitched around moisture movement, which is the more useful claim for warm sleepers over a whole night.
The 5cm zoned gel layer and firm spring support make most sense for back sleepers, front sleepers and people who dislike the dipped-in feel of standard memory foam. Praise tends to cluster around three things: a fresher initial surface, stable support through the lower back and hips, and a firmer edge that makes more of the mattress usable for couples. Sleep disturbance also appears to reduce for those sharing a bed, with movement described as controlled rather than lively, which fits the combination-spring construction better than an open-coil mattress would. The firmness is the caution. One repeated theme is adjustment: the bed can feel firmer than expected at first, and at least one buyer solved that with a thin topper, so lighter side sleepers wanting shoulder sink may find the comfort grade too braced. The cooling story is broadly supported by the feedback, especially from warm sleepers, but it should not be read as a soft hotel-top mattress with a cold cover; the support-first feel is still the dominant character. If heat build-up and firm back support are the problem, this works; if deep cushioning or side-sleeper softness matters more, a softer memory-foam hybrid or plusher pocket-sprung tier makes more sense.

A great night's sleep on a very comfortable mattress
I think maybe we ordered a slightly firmer mattress than we experienced in the store. Although since adding a thin topper this has given us as great sleeping experience. I feel my back is now feeling much better and I actually feel taller !
Solid support and cooling with a firm edge. After a few nights adjusting to it my sleep has been less disturbed and deeper.
