About the Dunlopillo® Hybrid Side Sleeper Pillow
Last checked
Side-sleeping is the whole brief here, with the Dunlopillo Hybrid Side Sleeper Pillow positioned as a supportive pillow for the gap between shoulder and head rather than a soft, sink-in bedding extra. It is a narrow brief by design. The key construction message is not softness but height and resistance: a side-sleeper pillow needs enough loft to fill the shoulder-to-neck gap, so the Dunlopillo is positioned closer to a firm support pillow than to a plump hollowfibre or down-style cushion. For a pillow sold specifically to side sleepers, that firmer, higher stance is on-brief rather than a spec weakness; compared with adjustable fibre pillows, though, the shape gives less room to tune the loft if the neck angle is wrong. The hybrid wording suggests a blend of support and cushioning, but the meaningful buying call is simpler: this is a specialist support pillow, not a general spare-room pillow, and its comfort will depend heavily on shoulder width, pillow-height tolerance and whether the sleeper actually wants the head held up rather than cradled.
The firm side-sleeper profile is exactly what produces the split feedback. Hardness is the dividing line. Praise tends to come from committed side sleepers who want their head held level and dislike pillows that collapse overnight; in those cases, neck and upper-back discomfort is described as easing, with support for the head and neck the repeated win. The same build is a problem for people expecting cushioned give, because the most frequent complaints describe the pillow as rock-like, too high and slow to soften, sometimes causing neck pain within the first night rather than relieving it. A second recurring frustration is consistency: several buyers say the pillow received at home felt markedly firmer than the sample tried before purchase, so the showroom impression and the owned product did not match. One recent complaint also mentions the shape becoming distorted, but the stronger pattern is firmness rather than collapse. This suits a side sleeper with broad shoulders or a firm-pillow preference who has already rejected softer pillow stacks; a stomach sleeper, a smaller-framed back sleeper, or anyone needing adjustable loft has a safer route through adjustable-fill fibre pillows, lower latex-style support pillows or a softer down-alternative category.

I ordered the firm but, was supposed to order a softer one.It is too hard for me.
Fantastic pillows that give excellent support. They are firm but very comfy. Myself and my husband have suffered with neck and back problems which have subsided since using these pillows.
I understand reviews saying not as soft as the one in store but I took that into consideration when choosing - lots of people lying on the pillow gives an indication of what it will be like at some point down the line, just not right away. I love it straight out the bag but I like a firm pillow - only struggle is getting slightly larger pillowcases to accommodate without looking "strained"!
I only read previous reviews after buying this pillow. Quite surprised. We get on with these pillows well. Comfortable. Bit of a struggle to fit into a normal pillow case but we'd just bought some John Lewis pillowcases which are an extra couple of cms wide and they fit fine. I previously used 3 very cheap pillows but only need 1 of the Dunlopillo hybrid. They are very firm but comfortable .
Love this pillow it took some getting used to but when I did I slept well. It seems to support my neck and shoulders very well as I'm a side sleeper. It keeps its shape just give it a quick shake and turn over. Love it that much I bought another 2. Expensive but worth it.
Love these pillows, I sleep on my back an this is perfect
Slightly harder than I thought. V good quality.
This is really good for those who sleep on their side.Provides great support for head and neck.If it works for you then it's money well spent.
I'll be honest - I was a bit nervous about buying this pillow after reading some of the reviews. However, the pillow I received is exactly like the one I tried in store, where I was helped by Maria, who was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. This is a firm pillow, and it's clearly designed for side sleepers like me. I sleep facing sideways and tend to bury my face into the pillow, and this one really works. It keeps my neck and shoulders properly aligned and is far more comfortable than the various pillow combinations I've tried over the years. What I like most is that my head sinks in just enough for comfort without disappearing into the pillow or losing support. It feels supportive rather than hard, and once you get used to it, it does exactly what it's designed to do. So while I can understand that this pillow won't suit everyone, especially if you prefer something softer or squashier, I'm very happy with it. Despite some of the negative reviews, it works extremely well for me and has noticeably improved my comfort when sleeping on my side.
Beautiful pillows they are so comfortable. Thank you. Michelle

If you purchased this pillow and expected it to be soft and cushioned like the one in the shop then you'll be wrong. Take it out the supplied white pillow case which makes it rock hard. Purchase a soft box shape pillow case and it transforms the pillow completely. I couldn't sleep well with it for weeks and persevered with different normal pillow cases. Once I purchased the box shape it was a game changer. I've used it for nearly 6 months now after removing the supplied pillow case and had no issues. Wish I'd known that in the first two weeks of restless nights.
Very supporting.
