About the Classic Newark Headboard
Last checked
The Newark is aimed at the simplest divan-headboard job: giving a plain bed base a cleaner, more finished backdrop without pushing the room towards a wingback, hotel-panel or heavily buttoned look. Its styling sits in the contemporary upholstered-headboard lane, with the manufacturer presenting it as a colour-scheme-friendly piece rather than a statement board, and the strongest owner comments picking up the same idea through remarks about texture, neatness and an upgraded bedroom look. This is restrained styling, not showpiece upholstery. For its construction class, that restraint is on-tier: plain divan headboards at this level usually compete on easy matching and tidy fabric finish rather than height drama, sculpted side returns or thick lounge-style padding. The most useful practical clue comes from the fitting feedback, where happy accounts describe it as straightforward to install, while one detailed low-scoring account says the support pieces arrived mismatched, with holes in the wrong places, making the headboard impossible to fit until replacement parts were arranged. That does not turn the Newark into a difficult headboard by design, but it does make the supplied supports and hole alignment more important than the polished product wording suggests, particularly for anyone expecting a quick bolt-on job after delivery.
Paired with a divan base, the Newark makes most sense in bedrooms where the bed needs a tidy upholstered finish rather than extra storage, frame bulk or a dramatic focal point. Buyers who liked it tended to praise the soft-feeling upholstery, the clean modern outline and the way it made a spare room or main bedroom look more complete; one fuller account also describes it as comfortable enough for sitting up, which fits the padded-headboard brief better than a hard wooden board would. Fit accuracy is the weak spot to watch. The clearest headboard-specific complaint concerns wrongly prepared wooden supports, and separate low-scoring feedback around related bed purchases also flags quality-control frustrations, so the practical risk is less about the Newark’s design language and more about parts arriving correctly made. Upholstery also brings the normal maintenance trade-off: it softens the look and feels better behind pillows, but it will need more careful cleaning than painted wood or metal if it sits in a child’s room, rental room or high-traffic spare bedroom. The Classic Newark suits divan owners wanting a low-key, modern upholstered finish with easy visual matching; those prioritising a more architectural centrepiece or more independent mounting flexibility should look instead at floor-standing wingback and panelled headboards in the next price tier.

Specifications
Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.
Made locally in the UK - British craftsmanship at its finest
Nearby factories mean the frame and upholstery spend less time in transit before reaching the retailer, and can leave fewer handoffs for queries about parts or delivery. Origin alone doesn't prove sturdier hinges or neater fabric work.
FSC accredited wood - sustainably sourced for a greener future
This product feature indicates that the wood used is sourced in an environmentally responsible manner. It supports sustainable forestry practices, contributing to forest conservation and a reduced ecological footprint.
Padded headboard style - with plush cushioning for extra comfort
Soft fill behind the front surface softens contact when you sit up. It can make the headboard look bulkier, and the covered surface needs regular vacuuming because dust and hair settle into it.
Highly durable woven fabric - for life-proof comfort and timeless style
Tightly interlaced threads give the upholstery a firmer, less stretchy surface, helping it cope with repeated sitting and brushing against bedding. Spills and pet claws can mark it.
Strutted headboard style - is lightweight and easy to attach
Twin struts bolt onto the bed frame, keeping the head end in place while leaving you with less weight to manoeuvre upstairs. Check the bolt spacing before ordering.

Would 100% recommend this company. Straight forward purchase, good price and delivered on time.
Wonderful and efficient service from choosing bed to delivery.
With the too halfs combined the 4 gas struts are too strong for some people to close the lid.
What a headboard just what was needed to finish off the bed i've bought
Went to the store to have a look around, but was followed everywhere by sales people, so decided to purchase online. Was easy to do , had text with delivery time and arrived as per text. Bed is fine , easy to assemble and my mattress fits . Very happy with it and would recommend. But it would be nice if headboard was in the same colour.
Well priced for a plain headboard compared to other companies and it's what you'd expect for the price, I'm happy with my purchase. Delivery time wait was long but well organised and professional delivered on the day.
Well packed and protected. All packing taken away. Installation very speedy!
Well packaged and delivered efficiently. Easy to fit.
We're very pleased with this elegant headboard. It was for our disabled brother's single bed, also purchased from Dreams, and it needed to plain, sturdy and comfortable for him. It also needed to look good in his relatively small bed-sitting room. It's successful on all these counts—thank you Dreams!
We went in for a new bed. I was quite surprised how much they were. Although there were lots of signs to say so much off there wasnt on our order. The bed is however every comfortable and I suppose you get what you pay for
