About the Batten Velvet-Finish USB Charging Bedside Table

Last checked

For anyone trying to match an upholstered Dreams bed frame, the Batten is a bedside table with a deliberately coordinated look rather than a neutral wooden cabinet. It uses a velvet-finish upholstered case on raised wooden legs, with two drawers, a top-mounted USB charging point and a glass top mentioned repeatedly in owner feedback as useful for daily bedside clutter. The colourways sit firmly in the decorative register: grey with silver detailing, or navy with gold metallic detailing, so this is closer to hotel-style bedroom furniture than pared-back Scandi storage. The USB port is genuinely practical. A fabric-wrapped bedside with integrated charging and a glass surface is more feature-rich than a plain two-drawer cabinet, but the material choice is still cost-engineered compared with the solid-wood furniture tier; the emphasis is coordination, touchable texture and convenience, not heirloom construction. Assembly appears light rather than involved, with the legs and screws described as quick to fit, which makes sense for a raised-leg bedside rather than a heavy fully built chest. The two-drawer layout is sensible for a bedside table, although the manufacturer’s “deep drawer” language needs tempering because real use points more towards everyday essentials than bulky storage.

As a companion to a velvet or fabric bed, especially Dreams’ Mount or Windsor-style frames, the Batten works best where the bedside table is part of the room’s look rather than just a box for storage. Praise tends to cluster around the styling, the sturdy feel once assembled, the easy leg fitting and the convenience of charging a phone from the top rather than trailing a plug behind the cabinet. The drawers handle books, cables, glasses and night-time basics. Capacity is the first limitation: buyers describe the drawers as slightly smaller than expected, which contradicts the deeper-storage impression in the product description and makes it less convincing for heavier bedside overflow. The more serious durability concern is the drawer action, with the push mechanism and opening/closing feel attracting repeated criticism, including one case where the mechanism became temperamental after only a few months. Upholstery also brings the usual mark risk, with an indentation complaint suggesting the soft finish will not be as forgiving as painted wood or laminate if knocked. The standard USB socket is handy, though a USB-C port would suit newer phones better. The Batten suits style-led bedrooms needing coordinated fabric furniture and light bedside storage; those prioritising bigger drawers, conventional handles and longer-term hardware reliability should look instead at the solid-wood or higher-spec cabinet tier.

Lovely design and the USB feature is pretty handy. The soft close drawers really add that extra touch of luxury.

The Batten is finished in the same fabric as the Mount and Windsor bed frames, making it the perfect match! Not only is it super stylish but provides great storage with two drawers and a practical glass top.

This is a lovely bedside table, I bought this in addition to a bed that had a similar colour. I wish it had a USB-C to charge my phone instead of USB. Super easy with the legs and the screws that were provided which took me about five minutes. Opening it and closing it can be a bit of a pain though.
