About the Robert Small 2-Door Wardrobe
Last checked
Buyers drawn to the Robert Small 2-Door Wardrobe are really buying a space-saving sliding-door wardrobe with a dressed-up face, not a simple hinged cupboard. The name undersells its footprint. WIEMANN’s Roberts design uses two soft-close sliding doors with a panelled front and a choice of glass or mirrored finishes, so the practical advantage is clear: the doors do not swing into the room, and the reflective option can help a bedroom feel less boxed in. Inside, the layout is a hanging area with an additional shelf, which is useful but not intricate; for a wardrobe pitched with a polished, near-fitted look, that storage plan is fairly conservative compared with multi-compartment freestanding wardrobes that add drawers, split rails or adjustable shelving. The stronger part of the spec is the access system, because soft-close sliding doors are a meaningful upgrade over basic budget wardrobes, especially in tight rooms where hinged doors become irritating. The weaker reading is material depth: the manufacturer description leans on finish and door style rather than timber construction, so the premium effect comes more from the façade, scale and glide mechanism than from a clearly stated solid-wood build.
Soft-close sliding doors are the feature that earns the most goodwill. Praise tends to focus on the wardrobe feeling substantial in the bedroom, with a scale and appearance that can pass as an alternative to fitted wardrobes once positioned properly; the hanging space and shelf are also described as generous enough for main-bedroom clothes rather than just overflow storage. Door movement matters here, and the quiet glide repeatedly lands well, which matches the spec rather than feeling like empty furniture terminology. The material story is more divisive: the sharpest complaint is that the wardrobe feels like chipboard and MDF for the price, with frustration coming from a mismatch between the expensive-looking glass or mirrored styling and expectations of heavier solid timber. That does not make it flimsy by definition, but it does mean the Roberts is better read as a finished-panel, sliding-door wardrobe in the modern German bedroom-furniture class, rather than as heirloom cabinetmaking. It suits a contemporary bedroom needing a freestanding fitted-wardrobe effect and quiet access without door swing; solid-oak expectations or buyers wanting lots of internal drawer organisation belong in solid-wood wardrobes or the higher fitted-furniture tier.

Painted wooden finish - classic wood grain enhanced with colour
Painted wood keeps the natural grain visible while adding a coloured look, which suits bedrooms that want warmth without a plain timber finish. Fine, expect paint to show chips and scratches sooner than an untreated surface, so it may need touch-ups if knocked.
Constructed in Germany - Award-winning German manufacturing
Free assembly included - in any room of your choice
Two sleek sliding doors - open to reveal spacious storage
Smooth soft-close drawers - designed for seamless, silent storage

The Roberts wardrobe range is well crafted and beautifully designed. The soft close sliding doors are a great way to save space while staying stylish, as well as having so many variations that youre sure to find your perfect match for your own bedroom décor.
I'm really impressed with the scale and quality of this wardrobe. It feels like having fitted wardrobes, even though it's freestanding. Generous hanging and shelf space - this wardrobe is definitely not small! The doors glide well with little sound. Overall I would recommend as an alternative to fitted wardrobes.
