About the Hyde and Sleep Deluxe Ice Memory Foam Mattress

Last checked

The Deluxe Ice is built around the relationship between contouring foam, airflow foam and a profiled support base, rather than springs doing the heavy lifting. It is a memory-foam mattress with a medium feel, 3 of 5, using five cushioning layers, memory-foam pods, an open-cell Aurora airflow layer, a cool-touch cover and a seven-zone base shaped for shoulders, back and hips. The support story is all foam. For this construction class, the zoned base and reinforced edge support are the more meaningful parts of the spec, and are more generous than the plain foam slabs found in cheaper all-foam mattresses; the conservative part is that bounce, pressure relief and motion control still come from foam engineering, not a pocket-spring unit. In practice, that means a slower, more cushioned response than traditional sprung mattresses, with less surface wobble but also less natural lift under heavier load. The memory-foam pods are best read as a comfort tweak: they should add a little responsiveness and help absorb movement, but they do not turn this into a hybrid. The cool-touch cover and open-cell foam are sensible choices for a foam mattress, because standard memory foam can trap warmth, although cooling fabric rarely changes the whole sleep environment on its own.

The foam-pod top and seven-zone base make most sense for side sleepers and average-weight back sleepers who want cushioning at the shoulder and hip without dropping into a very soft surface. Praise clusters around immediate comfort, a supportive feel for both side and back sleeping, reduced roll-together and edges that hold their shape when getting in and out of bed, which matches the reinforced-edge and motion-absorbing claims in the spec. Heat regulation is more conditional. Several positive experiences describe cooler sleep on warm nights, but the cooling claim weakens where overheating is driven by hot flushes or strong night sweats, and foam remains the less airy category compared with pocket-sprung hybrids. The sharper criticism is support comfort over time: low-scoring feedback repeatedly describes disturbed sleep, sore backs or hips, and a surface that feels firmer than expected rather than gently pressure-relieving. A strong chemical smell also appears as a serious, if less repeated, complaint, and it will matter more to asthma-sensitive households than to those used to new-foam odour. The Deluxe Ice suits average-weight side sleepers wanting contouring foam, low partner disturbance and better-than-basic edge support; those prioritising a plusher surface, stronger airflow or more dependable long-term support should look instead at medium pocket-sprung hybrids in the next price tier.

At my age I just want a decent nights kip, and this mattress has been properly comfortable with a nice middle feel, not too hard or too squidgy. It seems to keep a bit cooler than my old one and the edges dont sag when I sit on them. Bit of a faff to get set up at first, but once it settled its been sound.

Ive been sleeping on it about a week or two and dont feel comfortable on it. Strange as I was enjoying it in-store, but I suppose that was for less than 5 minutes. Prior to getting this mattress I was sleeping on an airbed for about a month, safe to say that was more comfortable unfortunately. It sounds like Ill have to wait until Ive slept a minimum of 30 nights on it before I can exchange it for something else. Pretty disappointed given the money Ive splashed out on this.

The mattress is made from a material which is quite "slippy". This means your bedsheets do slip and slide about. It is a very firm mattress which has taken me some time to get used to. I do find my back is aching where it wasnt before so I may have to change this mattress

This mattress is far too high for me. I thought I had ordered the matress I tested in the shop, which I chose not only for total bed height but for comfort. I have had to ask for an exchange for the simple reason I can't get into bed without a lot of difficulty
