About the Freddie Wooden Day Bed
Last checked
Melamine construction puts the Freddie Wooden Day Bed in the practical, wipe-clean furniture camp rather than the solid-timber bedstead class. Storage is the main event here. The white frame combines full-length two-tone shelving with two underbed drawers, so the same footprint works as a bed, a low bookcase and a place for clothes, toys or spare bedding. That is a sensible spec for a children’s room or compact spare room, because drawer storage is easier for a child to access than an ottoman lift and avoids needing clearance at the foot of the bed, although it will not swallow bulky bedding in the same way a full lift-up base can. Melamine is practical, not precious. The compromise sits in durability: surface-finished board is smooth and easy to clean, but chips and edge knocks are harder to disguise than on painted solid pine. Dreams recommends use from age 6+, which keeps the brief firmly in single-sleeper, storage-led territory rather than heavy adult use.
In a small bedroom where the bed has to carry its share of the storage burden, the Freddie’s layout is the main reason it earns praise. Bedtime clutter has somewhere to go. Buyers repeatedly describe the drawers as roomy, the shelves as useful for books, lights and small display items, and the finished look as modern enough for both a child’s room and a snug spare bedroom. Sturdiness comes through more than once as well, which fits the enclosed, furniture-style construction better than a lighter metal day bed or a very basic guest frame. Assembly is the main caution. The sample does not show a repeated failure point, but one detailed piece of feedback mentions paying for fitting to avoid the hassle, and a frame with drawers and shelving will always be more involved than a plain single bed. Surface-finished board also keeps cleaning simple while lacking the repairability and heavier furniture feel of higher-tier wooden day beds. It suits a child moving on from a cabin bed where storage cannot be sacrificed; regular adult guests, heavier nightly use or a more furniture-grade finish point the spend towards a solid-wood day bed or higher-tier guest frame.

Painted wooden finish - classic wood grain enhanced with colour
Painted wood keeps the natural grain visible while adding a coloured look, which suits bedrooms that want warmth without a plain timber finish. Fine, expect paint to show chips and scratches sooner than an untreated surface, so it may need touch-ups if knocked.
Sprung wooden slatted base - adds flexibility for extra support
A sprung wooden slatted base enhances the bed frame's flexibility, allowing it to adapt to the weight and movement of a sleeping individual. This design feature offers improved support and can contribute to a more comfortable sleeping experience.
Multi-functional day bed - perfect for sitting or sleeping
Built-in storage shelves - to keep your kid's room clutter-free

Just the job for any compact spare bedroom with its stylish and modern details. The added storage is an impressive touch.
Really lovely bed.. and so comfy! The shelving is a lovely little touch. Perfect for bedtime stories to go on there and little twinkle lights. Its everything you could need for a childrens bedroom that really needs storage. The huge drawers underneath fit so much in them and then where the shelves are.. theres a whole under section there as well. It has been a god send for my daughters room! Would highly recommend. Good quality wood. Easy to clean. Just looks stunning. We get a lot of compliments
The Freddie is perfect for both kids bedrooms and spare rooms. It's sleek design will fit any décor and offers a great storage solution.
The bed looks great, has fantastic storage and is very sturdy. Bought for my 12 yr old who no longer wanted his cabin bed. He was worried about losing storage space from under the bed but the two large drawers and the little shelves are perfect. I paid to have it assembled which wasnt cheap but took away the hassle of finding someone to do it. I would buy this again for my youngest if he wants one.
