About the Next Day Delivery - Dreams Workshop Billingham Traditional Spring Memory Mattress
Last checked
For a spare room, teenager’s bed or cost-conscious main mattress, the Billingham’s construction is a straightforward mix: a traditional open-spring core, a memory-foam comfort layer, a soft-touch damask cover and tufting through the surface. The key point is the spring type. An open-spring unit with hourglass-shaped coils is honest budget construction; compared with pocket-sprung hybrids, the support works more as one connected sheet, so it can feel buoyant and firm but is less precise at following shoulders, hips and weight differences. The memory foam adds cushioning above that spring bed, which is the comfort upgrade here, although the spec is conservative rather than generous because there is no stated foam depth, zoning or pocket count to suggest a more advanced support system. That is honest budget engineering. The damask cover and traditional tufts point to a familiar, slightly old-school mattress feel rather than the smoother, quilted surface found on many foam-heavy hybrids. Tufting helps clamp the layers together and can improve shape retention, but it also creates firmer points on the sleep surface, which becomes relevant in the feedback: the mattress is often praised as comfortable for the money, yet the surface detailing is not invisible once body weight presses into it.
Front and back sleepers fare better here, because the linked spring base and firmer customer-described feel give a flatter, more braced platform than a deep sink-in memory-foam mattress. Praise tends to focus on comfort, quick improvement in sleep and value, especially for children’s rooms, guest bedrooms and ottoman storage beds where a lighter, slimmer mattress is useful; one recurring positive is that the spring-and-foam mix feels supportive without being overly soft. The comfort picture is split. Complaints centre on harsh firmness, back discomfort and early spring feel-through, with more than one poor experience describing springs becoming noticeable after only months rather than years; that is a serious contradiction to the durability implied by the tufted, traditional build. Side sleepers have another specific risk, because the tufts and stitching can press into shoulders and hips, and at least one longer-use comment only became positive after adding a topper. Temperature feedback is not strong enough to call this a cooling mattress: memory foam usually holds more warmth than natural fibre fillings, even though the simpler open-spring interior should allow more air movement than an all-foam block. Couples should also be realistic, as open springs tend to share movement across the bed more than pocket springs, so restless partners or large weight differences may notice bounce. For a budget guest bed, teenager’s room or firm-feeling ottoman setup, this is the sensible call. For daily side sleeping, chronic pain or heavier bodies needing more resilient support, look at the £600-plus pocket-sprung or pocket-sprung hybrid tier instead.

Firm comfort support rating - feels solid and supportive
A firm comfort support rating indicates a mattress that provides a robust sleep surface, offering substantial support for the spine and pressure points. This level of firmness is particularly well-suited for individuals who prefer a stable and supportive sleeping area, often helpful for those with back pain or those who sleep on their stomach or back.
100 Night Comfort Guarantee - gives you peace of mind when you buy
A 100 Night Comfort Guarantee allows for a trial period where the product can be tested in your own home environment to see if it meets personal comfort standards. If it doesn't meet your expectations, it can be returned for a refund or exchange, offering flexibility and assurance in purchasing decisions.
Contouring memory foam - adapts to your unique body shape
The memory foam layer customizes its shape to match the body's contours, ensuring improved support and pressure relief during sleep. This feature enhances comfort by evenly distributing weight, potentially reducing pressure points and alleviating discomfort.
Traditional open springs - for even support across the mattress

I purchased the Dreams Workshop Billingham Traditional Spring Memory Mattress a few months ago, and it has truly transformed my sleep. From the very first night, I noticed how perfectly it balances comfort and support. The traditional springs give just the right amount of bounce, while the memory foam layer gently contours to my body — relieving pressure points and keeping my spine aligned. I no longer wake up with aches in my shoulders or lower back, and I find myself sleeping through the night without tossing and turning. The mattress also does a great job of regulating temperature, so I never feel too hot or too cold. The build quality is excellent, with sturdy stitching and a finish that feels premium. Even after regular use, it still feels as supportive as the day it arrived. Delivery was smooth, and the team set everything up with care and professionalism. I can honestly say this mattress has improved not just my sleep, but my overall energy and mood during the day. Its an investment in comfort and health that I wish Id made sooner.
Really comfortable and good quality mattress for the price. Purchased for my teenaged daughter who is delighted.
Very light, very slim. Perfect for an ottoman storage bed. Well made and has a good finish. Not quite a firm as I hoped for, but no sagging and no back pain for a front sleeper like me. I am happy with this purchase
Wonderful service from start to finish. Efficient website, friendly and helpful delivery staff.comfy bed, happy with my purchase.
Very comfortable, good value for money, granddaughter loves it
Good quality mattress, great delivery service. Happy with purchase
Super comfortable mattress! I was looking for something firm for my back, and this mattress provides really great support. The delivery service was also really great. The team were super friendly and informed me on the steps I needed to take before being able to use the mattress.
Very good quality for this price. Mattress is great!
Decent quality mattress. Comfy enough. Efficient and helpful delivery team.
A good quality mattress for sleep, however the only thing that let it down was how hard the stitching is on the indents on the top of the mattress. They are like plastic to lie on and made it uncomfortable for me to side sleep on. As a result I ended up buying a topper and have an amazing night's sleep with the topper. The mattress itself is a nice height and comfortable not too soft but not too hard. Overall a good mattress just would be wary of the hard stitching.
Great service bed comfy but maybe too firm so may change after 30 days to a softer mattress
Bought as upgrade mattress for spare bed but having slept on it for a few nights, can say its lovely and comfy and had good nights sleeps.
I was very happy to receive my mattress, when l put it down on my bed it was to wide, so l gave it to my son,…. The next day he told me this mattress is perfect, now I can sleep good and am not waking up in pain. So now l have to get another one which would be the right size.
This mattress is incredibly comfortable and has made moving into our new apartment that much better. Being able to come home to this every evening makes everything great!
Bought as a spare bed for a regular visitor. Good value
Nice and firm mattress with a memory foam filling traditional sprung very light weight easy to rotate. Thankyou Dreams
The mattress is of decent standard although from obviously the lower end of the price range. The mattress is fairly light so would be ideal for older customers or people a bit more physically challenged to be able to rotate or flip over than some of the other thicker heavier mattresses.
Nice bed. Great value for money and firm how I wanted it
Mattress very good, stud indents could be softer as can sometimes dig into you
Extremely comfortable, order process was very easy
