About the Silentnight Play Traditional Spring Kids Mattress
Last checked
The key build here is traditional open coil support, topped with dual comfort fillings and a fully quilted sleep surface, rather than the pocket-sprung or foam-hybrid construction found in dearer children’s mattresses. It is a medium mattress, 3 of 5, aimed at children aged 3 years and over. In a child’s mattress, open coil springs make the support simple and fairly uniform: they can spread a small child’s weight evenly enough, but they do not contour as independently as pocket springs when the sleeper gets heavier or wriggles hard. For the category, it is fair. The EcoComfort Fibre layer is the more interesting part of the spec, because breathable recycled fibre is a practical comfort choice for children who overheat or kick off covers, and it is more useful here than a dense memory-foam slab that could trap warmth. The quilted surface points to a softer, snug first impression rather than a deep cushioned pillow-top feel, so the comfort is likely to come from light padding and spring response, not body-hugging sink. For this construction class, the support story is simple and honest: full-body spring coverage, moderate surface comfort and hypoallergenic materials, but no zoned support system and no adult-grade motion isolation.
Moving a child from a cot or toddler bed to a first proper bed is where this mattress appears to land best, with the medium feel giving side sleepers enough surface give while still keeping younger back sleepers from dropping into an overly soft surface. Sleep quality is the repeated praise point: children are described as settling more readily, finding it comfortable, and in some cases becoming keener to sleep in their own bed, which fits the spec’s combination of quilted padding and responsive springs. Heat build-up is not a major complaint. The breathable fibre claim is backed up by comments about children not getting too warm, and the hypoallergenic angle is useful for households trying to avoid irritation from a new sleep surface. The spring unit is where the main criticism sits: movement can sound noticeably loud, with repeated mentions of spring noise when a toddler turns over, so light sleepers sharing a room may find the rustle and twang more intrusive than the comfort rating suggests. There is also a clear size-and-strength boundary. Occasional adult use may be bearable, but the construction can feel flimsy under adult weight compared with a firmer pocket-sprung adult mattress. It lands well for a young child’s first bed when comfort, breathability and moderate support are the priority; heavier teenagers or adults using the bed regularly belong in a firmer pocket-sprung or hybrid adult range.

Got this kids mattress for my little brother and it feels comfy and supportive, hes been sleeping better and it doesnt get too warm. Only thing is you can hear the springs a bit when he wriggles about.
It's a suitable mattress for kids and has eco comfort fibres for perfect night rest. Medium comfort and hypoallergenic properties are a plus.
This mattress will allow your child to sleep comfortably and irritation-free as they move to their first big bed. This is down to the hypoallergenic properties and breathable cover which helps to regulate their body temperature.
Mattress used for a four year old child. More than adequate and with sufficient firmness to ensure its not too soft . Quite sturdy and looks good. It is also suitable for use by an adult on an occasional basis but some may find it a little to flimsy
