Buyers considering the iGel NanoTech 6000i Plushtop Zip and Link are mainly paying for a large-format mattress that can be split for access, turning and partner practicality, rather than for a radically different sleep surface from the one-piece version. The zip-and-link format is the clearest disclosed construction feature here: compared with a single super king mattress, it makes movement through tight stairs and rotation far more manageable, but it also creates a physical join down the centre. That is practical, not automatically more comfortable. The Plushtop label points to an extra cushioned surface layer, while the iGel NanoTech branding signals gel-led comfort marketing, yet the real-world firmness comments cut through that: this is repeatedly described as firmer than the medium feel people expected. For a zip-and-link plushtop mattress, that is an important distinction, because a plush top can soften surface contact without changing the underlying support character; against softer memory-foam hybrids, this behaves more like a supportive, firmer-feeling pocket-sprung hotel mattress than a sink-in pressure-relief model. The most honest spec call is that the split build is generous for handling and room access, but conservative for uninterrupted comfort across the middle, where a one-piece construction has the advantage.

The relationship between the split format and the firmer feel defines who gets on with it: back sleepers and those wanting a steadier, more supportive surface are the better match, while side sleepers expecting a soft, cushioning medium may find the shoulder and hip feel less forgiving at first. Sleep quality does appear to improve for some, especially where previous mattresses were linked with aching hips, backs or knees, and the support is the most convincing praise point across the stronger feedback. The firmness is the main divider. A repeated complaint is that the delivered mattress feels harder than the showroom version, with one comparison even placing the so-called medium 6000i firmer than another iGel model tried at a higher rating, so the comfort grading and the lived feel do not line up neatly. The central divide is the other practical compromise: the zip-and-link decision helps with rotating and moving the mattress, but the seam can make the bed feel more like two singles than one continuous sleep surface, especially for anyone who drifts towards the middle. Temperature regulation also attracts a muted response, with the gel cooling story not always translating into a noticeable change, and early foam smell plus regular turning duties add faff during ownership. The iGel suits couples needing super-king access, easier rotation and a firm, supportive feel; those prioritising a seamless sleep surface or a softer medium should look instead at one-piece pocket-sprung mattresses or softer memory-foam hybrids.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Buyers report good support that alleviates discomfort in hips, back, and knees.
  • Owners appreciate the zip and link feature for easier mattress maintenance and repositioning.
  • Several recent customers mentioned the mattress feeling firmer at first but softening over time with use.
  • Many users found the mattress to be a good match for their sleep preferences despite its firmness.

Cons

  • Some users describe a noticeable divide between the linked mattresses, feeling like two separate beds.
  • Others found the mattress to be significantly firmer than expected, not matching in-store experience.
  • Several owners noted a chemical smell upon delivery that took time to dissipate.
  • A few buyers mentioned the need for regular turning adds extra maintenance to the mattress care.

The bed itself is very comfortable but it's like sleeping in 2 single beds, the divide between the beds is more apparent when you are in it

Nice mattress but it's certainly more firm than the medium we tried in store. We had to get zip and link due to space but don't see why this would change the firmness of the mattress.

This bed feels no way as comfy as the one we laid on in store a lot harder, but there's no way I'm waiting another 3 months for a different one, don't think we'll bother with igel again not worth the over price

After some great guidance from Bensons for Beds we went with the iGel Mattress. Again with some good advice we decided to get the super king size with zip and link mattress. This has proved to be a valuable decision, as we have to turn the mattresses to keep them in good condition. Also we have moved the bed position, this would have been nearly impossible if the mattress was in one piece. The mattress and pillows from iGel are very comfortable.

Very nice abd supportive, has gotten rid of the old mattress problems with aching hips/back/knees! The 6000i is oddly more of a firm feel than the 5000i in the same rating. The 'firm' rated 5000i seemed less firm in the shop than the 'medium' rated 6000i. Went for the medium but I'd say still feels like others 'firm' rating... Was extremely firm when first delivered, but has softened with use (and after warming up inside - was cold from delivery truck!) Smells a bit 'chemically'/foamy but not too bad. It also has some requirements to turn every week for first 6 months then monthly after that so is a bit of work every weekend to strip bed and turn around. Haven't noticed the claimed temperatire regulation any different from old one so not sure if that claim is marketing hype! Overall very comfortable, would recommend it.
