About the Tempur Pro Luxe Smartcool Mattress

Last checked

The Tempur Pro Luxe Smartcool Mattress is built around the dense, slow-response Tempur feel rather than a spring-count story, and the supplied tension is firm, 5 of 5. It is a slow-response mattress by design. In practical terms, this means the surface is intended to mould closely and hold the body in a steadier position, rather than giving the push-back and easy bounce of pocket-sprung or memory-foam hybrid mattresses. That is an honest premium-foam proposition: the value sits in pressure-spreading material and the Smartcool surface treatment, not in visible engineering such as mini-springs, zoned coils or a thick pillowtop layer. For a mattress pitched at the upper end of the foam market, the firm rating is a clear choice rather than a safe middle ground, because Tempur’s contouring can feel supportive and enveloping to one sleeper while feeling restrictive to another who wants quick movement or a softer shoulder drop. The Smartcool name also needs reading practically. It suggests a cooler-touch cover and better heat handling than older dense memory foams, but it does not turn an all-foam mattress into the same airy sleep surface as an open-spring build with natural-fibre padding.

Back sleeping is where the tension and moulding behaviour make most sense, especially for someone who wants the pelvis held level rather than allowed to dip. Positive reviews repeatedly describe the mattress shaping to the body, easing aches, and giving a more supported night’s sleep; several also note that it feels unlike a traditional bed and takes time to adapt to. The feel is divisive under load. Low-scoring reviews repeatedly flag discomfort, with the firm surface described as too solid by some, while one detailed account says it softened closer to medium after a short settling period and another describes awkward sinking and sliding on an adjustable base, so the showroom-style idea of a simple “firm equals stable” feel does not cover every bedroom outcome. Side sleepers, particularly those with pronounced hips and shoulders, are the risky match here because they need more sink at the contact points than this tension is meant to provide. Temperature feedback is more reassuring: one substantial June account mentions a 23-24°C bedroom without overheating, while another calls the mattress warm, which fits dense foam with a cooling cover rather than a genuinely breezy construction. Weight is also a practical nuisance, with making the bed and moving the mattress needing help in more than one account, and one owner flags a strong new-foam smell lasting a week or two. If you're a back sleeper wanting dense, moulding support, this works. If you're a side sleeper needing shoulder and hip give, a softer pocket-sprung or medium memory-foam hybrid tier makes more sense.

Specifications

Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.

TEMPUR® Advanced material –provides our best ever pressure relief* across your body for comfort and support on a whole new level

Slow-recovery foam compresses under heavier areas and rebounds gradually, spreading load across the surface and reducing sharp digging at the shoulder or hip. Hot sleepers may prefer a more open, spring-led build.

* Based on internal tests comparing TEMPUR® Original with TEMPUR® Advanced Material, carried out by Dan-Foam ApS between May 2022 – March 2023.

Foam samples are compressed beside an earlier version to indicate whether the newer layer changes how pressure is spread under your shoulders and hips. Lab results don't replace trying the mattress at home.

Free 10 year guarantee –for peace of mind?

Fault cover means a qualifying sag or failed seam should be handled without a fresh mattress bill, making longer ownership feel less risky. Spills and comfort changes may sit outside the cover.

TEMPUR® Dynamic Support Technology –working together with TEMPUR® Material, this layer provides additional support plus extra ease of movement

Foam beneath the upper comfort layers pushes back when weight shifts, helping you turn over without feeling trapped in the surface. People after deep sink may prefer a slower, softer foam feel.

TEMPUR Adapt® material –ultra deep layer of original TEMPUR® Material for ultimate comfort and support, now more resilient and long lasting, adapts to your body and relieves pressure

Slow-sinking foam lets heavier points settle, easing sharp pressure around hips. Because it hugs closely, hot sleepers or anyone who turns often may prefer a more open, spring-led surface.

Easy care –no turn mattress, simply rotate regularly, in line with the care guide instructions

One sleep face stays uppermost, sparing you the awkward flip. Care means moving it end to end on schedule, because the same areas can settle faster when left under nightly pressure.

Comfort rating –Soft, Medium, Medium/Firm and Firm

Firmness choice changes how deeply your body sinks. Pick too cushioned and your hips may dip, while too resistant can leave pressure building where you press into the mattress.

TEMPUR® Durabase™ technology –works with the upper mattress layers ensuring long lasting comfort and support

Dense base layer steadies the cushioning above, keeping the surface from dipping sharply as you turn or sit near the edge. Very soft top layers can mask that firmness.

QuickRefresh™ zip-off top cover –machine washable at 40°C keeps it feeling fresh and cool, night after night

Removable top panel lets you wash the sleep surface at 40°C, helping clear sweat and skin oils before they sit under the sheet. It won't make a warm room sleep cold.

TEMPUR Pro® SmartCool™ Cover –innovative Cool-to-the-touch SmartCool Technology™ helps to absorb excess body heat, keeping you feeling cool and fresh

Cover fabric pulls warmth from your skin, leaving the surface cooler at first touch and less clammy as you settle. Heavy bedding can overwhelm that cooling effect.

Mattress height –30cm

Thirty centimetres of depth lifts the sleep surface higher on the base, and taller sleepers may find getting in and out easier. Low bed frames may suit it better.

The mattress is all that I hoped, as was the service I received from Rachael. However, the mattress cover I purchased from Bensons keeps sliding off. This is no doubt due to the fact I have to sleep partly in a laying position, but of course its causing me a constant problem and ruining my experience of my purchase. Can you help John

NASA technology More like alien technology! This matter was should come with a warning. You'll never want to get off it. Had mine delivered today and I've fallen asleep on it about six times. I've had constant back pain for five years, but am completely pain free when I sit or lay on this in any position, it shapes itself around me and keeps doing so if I move! Never known anything like this. Worth every penny and more! Absolutely delighted

This is a fantastic mattress! The best way I can describe it is like sleeping on a beach; it feels like a bed of sand. When you shift to your side, you may need to adjust a little to get comfortable, but once you do, it's incredibly cozy. However, the price is quite high for a mattress. If I were to buy another mattress in the future, I would consider a Dunlopillo latex mattress. Latex mattresses don't conform to your body and move with you, making them a potentially better option.

I would recommend this mattress to anyone. It takes a little getting used to but if you suffer from joint pains it really gives you the support you need. I find the only downside, if you can call it that , is, if you move around a lot in bed it's not as easy as other mattresses! Having said that, I can honestly say that I wake up each morning without the aches and pains that I had before.

The most luxurious mattress and worth every penny for the perfect nights sleep. Once you get used to sleeping on memory foam instead of springs you won't want to go back. Used to wake up with back ache with our old mattress, but after a matter of weeks I can't get out of bed without any pains at all. Definitely a worthwhile investment for your future health.
