About the Sealy Eaglesfield Memory Ortho Plus Mattress
Last checked
The Sealy Eaglesfield Memory Ortho Plus is a 25cm, single-sided orthopaedic mattress built around Sealy’s PostureTech Core Support spring system, with a damask cover, memory-foam comfort layer, edge support and turning handles. This is an open-spring support unit rather than a pocket-sprung one, so the support is more uniform across the body and less individually responsive than the £500-plus pocket-sprung or memory-foam hybrid tier; the honest part is that Sealy leans into firmness and edge reinforcement rather than pretending this is a contour-heavy, zoned luxury build. Firmness is the main event here. The memory foam softens the surface a little, adding some moulding over shoulders, hips and lower back, but it sits on top of a firmer orthopaedic spring base, so buyers expecting a deep, slow-sinking foam feel may find the comfort layer secondary to the spring tension. At 16kg in single, 21kg in double and 27kg in king size, it is relatively manageable for rotation compared with many thicker hybrids, and the four handles matter because the mattress still needs turning head-to-toe every couple of months even though it never needs flipping. The five-year guarantee and National Bed Federation approval are solid on-tier signals, while the damask cover and tufted, firmer sleep surface keep it closer to a traditional back-care mattress than a plush boxed-foam design.
People who want a very supportive, high-feeling bed are the clearest audience, especially back sleepers and some heavier side sleepers who dislike dipping through softer foam. Buyers consistently describe the mattress as very firm, supportive and better for back discomfort, with several linking the feel to improved sleep or reduced lower-back and hip aches; that lines up with the firm spring core and relatively restrained memory-foam layer rather than contradicting the spec. Couples get a practical benefit from the Edge Guard, which should make the usable sleeping width feel steadier near the sides, although an open-spring core is not the same as pocket springs for isolating a restless partner’s movement. The recurring reservation is hardness. More than one owner found it too firm for one half of a couple, and a topper was used to make the surface more forgiving while keeping the underlying support; there is also a smaller but sharper quality-and-expectation complaint, including one low-rating buyer saying it did not feel firm enough, which sits against the wider owner pattern rather than overturning it. The memory foam may hold a little more warmth than plain fibre fillings, but the relatively traditional 25cm build and damask surface do not read like a heavily foamed heat trap. Best suited to firm-mattress buyers, back-pain-focused sleepers and those who prioritise edge stability and easy rotation; side sleepers with sensitive shoulders, lighter bodies wanting cushioning, or couples needing strong motion isolation are better served by a softer pocket-sprung mattress or a plusher memory-foam hybrid.

Specifications
Manufacturer specifications without the jargon, easy to scan and compare.
Orthopaedic Support
This king-size sanctuary of comfort grants sterilised hypoallergenic filling that ensures sleep is not disrupted by common allergens. Furthermore, an impressive tally of 2000 individually nestled springs provides the spine with correct alignment, tackling backaches and promoting a healthy sleeping posture.
Fire Resistant
Ensuring safety during your peaceful slumber, fire resistance is a crucial feature that reduces the risk posed by potential accidents involving flammable materials. Furthermore, it demonstrates the manufacturer's commitment to adhere to strict safety standards, prioritizing your well-being over all else.
PostureTech Core Support Springs
Featuring a proprietary PostureTech Core Support Springs system, this technology ensures an equal distribution of weight across the entire sleep surface. As such, it can help promote correct spinal alignment and alleviate pressure points, thereby promoting a more restful and comfortable night's sleep.
National Bed Federation Approved Brand
Receiving approval from the National Bed Federation indicates that the product meets specific industry standards and quality benchmarks. This approval serves as a reassurance of the product's reliability and durability, though discerning buyers may still want to consider personal comfort preferences.
Firm
Firmness in a mattress indicates robust support for your spine, reducing the risk of back pain and contributing favourably to your posture. Still, it might not be suitable for those who prefer a softer surface or side sleepers, who could find such solidity uncomfortable.
25cm deep
In terms of depth, 25cm can imply a mattress that provides significant cushioning, potentially offering improved comfort and support. However, this dimension also may require deeper fitted sheets, an additional consideration for the shopper.
Includes turning handles
Turning handles aid in the regular rotation of the mattress, thereby significantly extending its lifespan. Easy maintenance is always appreciated, and these handles streamlining the process by making rotation hassle-free and manageable.
Damask cover
Woven fabric gives the mattress surface a tighter, smoother feel under sheets, with a patterned thread structure that resists the baggy stretch some softer covers can develop. Spills can sit in the weave, making a protector sensible.
Approved by the National Bed Federation
Factory auditing checks that the mattress is made under UK rules for flammability, fillings and labelling, giving you a clearer paper trail for what arrives at home. It doesn't prove comfort, firmness or long-term durability.
Depth: 25cm
25cm is a great middle-ground for a mattress. Thick enough to house good quality materials and components while being thin enough to fit normal sheets ensuring you do not need to upgrade your bedding unnecessarily.
5 year guarantee
Fault cover puts manufacturing problems in writing, making a loose strut, failed fixing or collapsed padding less of a gamble after delivery. Accidental damage, fabric marks and poor fitting usually sit outside it.
Memory Foam
Foam in the comfort layer softens under body heat, letting shoulders and hips sink closer into the surface while reducing sharp pressure points. It can feel warmer and slower to move on.
Reinforced mattress edge
Firmer sides help the mattress hold its shape when you sit or sleep near the border, giving you more usable width across the bed. It won't stop a soft comfort layer dipping under weight.
Made in the UK
This 100% UK made product is the perfect choice for a home with a sense of individuality. Sleep in comfort with the knowledge that you'll waking up refreshed and ready for another day.
Handcrafted in the UK
Factory workers assemble and finish the mattress by hand, leaving small variations in stitching or edge detail you may notice up close. It doesn't prove better support or longer life.
Single-sided
Bed-making is simpler because the comfort layers stay on the top face, leaving the underside to stabilise the mattress while you lie on the cushioned surface. Don't flip it over.

Provides excellent support and comfortable to sleep on due to the firmness of the mattress. The memory foam is a great bonus, which contours to the body shape providing further comfort.
Very well made, very firm so good if you have any back problems. Although I do find it very firm I do get a good nights sleep so no complaints
Very firm mattress . My son who suffers from back pain said he had a long lovely rest full nights sleep.
Nice firm bed, plenty of support and comfortable. Really suited.
The best mattress I've ever had. Support and comfort are excellent!
It's ideal for people who want very firm mattress... back problems its ideal for them...
Good value firm mattress
It's comfy
This is a very firm mattress. My husband loves it but I find it too hard. However, if you put a memory foam topper on it then it is comfortable, yet firm. Either way if you are heavier or taller than average then it is a good mattress to buy. It is very light so it is easy to turn or move.
