About the Hyde and Sleep Hybrid Ice Memory Foam Mattress

Last checked

Back sleepers wanting a taut hybrid are the obvious audience for the Hyde & Sleep Hybrid Ice, especially with the declared tension sitting at firm, 5 of 5. This is a foam-led hybrid. Calling it a hybrid is fair, but the build sits closer to memory-foam hybrids than to full-height pocket-sprung mattresses: the micro-springs add response and airflow, while the profiled base foam carries most of the load. The memory foam pods are the comfort headline, designed to absorb movement and contour without giving the whole surface a slow, sinking feel; at this firmness, though, the foam is there to cushion a solid support platform rather than create plush pressure relief. The 5-zone base is the most useful structural detail, because profiling around shoulders, back and hips is more purposeful than a plain slab of support foam, especially for back sleeping. Enhanced edge support is also a practical inclusion for anyone who sits on the side of the bed or shares the mattress. The cooling cover is worth treating as a feel feature, not air conditioning. At the firm end of the market, that combination is honest: more engineered than a basic foam mattress, but not the same proposition as a deeper £700-plus pocket-sprung build with thicker comfort upholstery.

Used mainly for back sleeping, the firm surface and zoned base make most sense for people who want their hips held level rather than allowed to dip into the mattress. Side sleepers get the tougher deal. The same tension that helps a back sleeper stay straighter can leave hourglass figures and lighter side sleepers short of give at the shoulder and hip, where pressure relief needs sink as well as support. Positive reviews repeatedly describe a comfortable mix of memory foam and springs, with several linking the firmer support to less back or shoulder discomfort; that matches the spec, because responsive micro-springs and profiled base foam should feel steadier than all-foam designs. Heat is where the Ice branding loses authority: a recurring complaint is that the mattress sleeps warm despite the cool-touch cover, including from people who specifically bought it for temperature control. Chemical smell is the sharper practical warning, with lower-rated reviews describing off-gassing lasting days or even weeks, sometimes strong enough to delay use; a separate, more minor nuisance is the depth causing standard fitted sheets and protectors to shift. For dedicated back sleepers who like a taut, foam-led feel, this is the right call. For hot sleepers, scent-sensitive households or curvier side sleepers, look at softer pocket-sprung or latex-hybrid tiers instead.

Feels properly supportive without being like sleeping on a plank, and the cooler cover is a nice touch on warmer nights. Had a bit of a wait for it to turn up, but once it did its been spot on so far.

Great mattress for its cooling properties and firm support. However, took a while for the new smell to fade.

A wide range of mattresses to try and helpful staff to guide you. Loved this mattress in the shop, and it is proving to be very comfortable. Particularly like the combination of memory foam and springs. Delivery on time and delivery people helpful. Some reviews mention a smell. We did as recommended, leaving it to air with windows open for the day, and have had no problem with any smell. The only reason not to give 5 stars is the mattress is very deep and we find our fitted sheet and mattress protector solid around quite a lot in the night. We are experimenting with extra deep fitted sheets to try and resolve this.

Very comfortable, best nights sleep in a long time. Both my husband & I are sleeping well on our new mattress. Great fit with the new bed, and looks great on the Deacon surround. Great experience in the Ipswich store, especially as needed due to change in mobility etc. wouldnt hesitate to go back and recommend.

Both the mattress and the motorised frame have more or less cured my insomnia and snoring - Im so relieved this has worked for me… going to bed used to be full of apprehension and preparation for being wide awake and being uncomfortable … now the elevation of the mattress gives me the strange ability to go to sleep within minutes, with my smart watch reporting sleep quality of 90% or more… up from 45-50%
