About the Saturn Metal Bunk Bed

Last checked

Matte-black metal is the defining choice on the Saturn Kids Metal Bunk Bed, giving it a more grown-up, industrial look than the painted wooden bunks often aimed at younger children. The squared finials are a small style detail, but they matter because this frame is being pitched at older children and teens rather than nursery-age bedrooms; Dreams also sets the use guidance at age 6+. The useful feature is its convertibility. Being able to split the bunk into two single beds is generous for a straightforward metal bunk frame, because cheaper bunk beds in this class often commit the room to a stacked layout until the whole frame is replaced. The ladder can be fixed on either side, which helps with awkward door, radiator or wardrobe positions, although it remains a ladder-based bunk rather than a storage staircase. There are no built-in drawers or desk elements here, so the Saturn is more about freeing floor space than adding concealed storage. Against bulkier wooden bunk beds, the metal construction should feel visually lighter and less block-like, but the trade-off is that the frame relies heavily on its fixings and bar supports feeling tight and well aligned once assembled.

Families trying to keep two older children, grandchildren or teens in one bedroom are the clearest match, especially where a full wooden bunk would dominate the room. Praise repeatedly centres on the frame feeling sturdy once built, the darker finish looking less childish, and the top bunk leaving enough usable space below for sitting and bedtime reading; taller teenagers also appear in the stronger positive feedback, which supports the “older children” positioning rather than contradicting it. Headroom earns praise from taller children. The quality-control notes are harder to ignore: scratched parts on arrival, tight assembly tolerances, thinner ladder rungs than expected and one serious report of bars and screws failing all point to a frame that needs careful checking during build and again after use, particularly in a room where energetic children climb up and down daily. The reversible ladder is a practical spec connection, but placement needs confirming before everything is tightened, as one recent buyer ended up with it on the opposite side from the product image expectation. The Saturn suits families wanting a modern, space-saving teen bunk with the option to become two singles later; those prioritising flawless finish, built-in storage or a heavier-duty feel should look instead at solid wooden bunks or the higher bunk-bed price tier.

Second time buying this item and again very happy with the purchase. Item is sturdy and solid. Can go into a bunk bed or single beds and the frame is solid and can cope well with children bouncing and jumping all over them. Would definitely recommend.

After receiving the mattresses, I found they were slightly short and narrow for the bunk bed we also brought from dreams. The pillows are ok to or the kids and was a very nice gift from the sales person who took our order. The sprung mattress are adequate for the kids and they love their new beds. So nice to have our own bed back now...lol

Great bunks beds with the top bunk at a good height so you can sit on the bottom bunk for reading bedtime stories. My only complaint is the product is not very well packaged as most of the elements were scratched. Got a replacement after my first order had lots of scratches but the replacement wasn't much better.

A nice sturdy bed, with a good finish, and flexibility. However the tolerances were such that it was quite tricky to get it to fit together.

After hunting around IKEA and all furniture stores you can think of, we found this bunk bed. It is strong and sturdy and perfect for my oversized teenagers. My boys love it. Plus it was easy to assemble and looks amazing. If space is tight and you are looking for a strong bed, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Although we had to wait 12weeks due to the pandemic, it was worth waiting for!

Good headroom, solid frame, much more light than other options available. Great colour. Took 1hr 55mins to assemble from opening box but instructions simple enough given other options available. Delivery spot on too. Opted to send an old frame back as part of addition service and as I had pre packed in provided bags, it was all done in 3 mins. Only downside is extended wait of 8 weeks.
